I almost don’t want to make this review; I’m gonna be back in Kyoto sometime soon, so I need to gatekeep this place until after I leave.
This is cheap. Absurdly cheap. Like, so cheap you’re walking in here thinking “no way a large, 680円 bowl of ramen is anything more than salt and water poured on top of some uncooked spaghetti.” You’re wrong. Get the ramen and order the gyoza, too. Maybe two orders of it. Shoot, get a rice bowl as well. It’s all delicious, and you won’t have to eat for a week.
Old little shop, great vibes, and the staff are elite. Enjoy this experience!
Update: even better than I remembered. Prices have only gone up marginally in the last two years, and the quality is still wonderful for what you pay. The highlight was, and still is, the lovely proprietress here. She took such wonderful care of us during our meal, and we couldn’t be...
Read moreSmall local ramen eatery in a mostly residential neighborhood near Tōfukuji station. There is pretty much only one type of ramen (rich pork broth), with some side dish options. However, that broth is THE BOMB. Creamy, but not too rich. Extremely umami, and just salty enough to not be too salty. The noodles have just enough bite to them, and the toppings were a perfect match for the broth. I also ordered a chashu rice bowl, which was delicious. Finally, while some reviews here praised the gyozas, I found them just alright: they're not meaty enough in my opinion. The dipping sauce, however, was nicely savory and acidic. One thing to highlight is that a whole meal there costs nothing: my meal costed me just a bit above ¥1000. You could fill yourself up with a large rame bowl for under ¥700. Overall, good value...
Read moreAmazing ramen! Came to tour Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka mainly for ramen and other food and this place is BY FAR the best I've had out of the 4 places we've eaten (2 with Michelins). Tucked away in on a quiet street near Kyoto Station lies this small Ramen shop. The broth was amazingly fragrant with a distinct pork and slight vegetable aroma. Taste was the same amazing pork, with notes of roasted garlic and green onions. Topped with slices of sweet, fatty and perfectly seasoned pork and green onion. The noodles were fresh and had a very subtle chew, perfect. I'm not sure if they're made in house or not. There was no flare or a plethora of toppings; there was no need for it. Just simply ramen. I look forward to seeing...
