This definitely ranks in my top 3 favorite udon places. We had the seasonal special of wasabi kizami udon (cold) and nanasai udon (cold) with an additional topping of a single massive kitsune.
Everything was perfect. The wasabi kizami udon had a bit of a sour kick, and the wasabi really was like the upper parts of the wasabi plant. It was so delicious, refreshing, and different. It was a hot day and this just hit the spot. The nanasai udon was also great, felt great to have a bunch of veggies, everything was fresh and the grilled daikon was so juicy and sweet. The kitsune topping I got for 300yen was massive and really meaty.
To wrap up, I ordered a single portion of warabi mochi and it was definitely one of the better warabi mochis Iโve had. Came with a nice little hot cup of tea as well. For 150jpy. I rarely comment on value because good food is good food, but this was just ridiculously affordable. Especially for the quality and execution. Itโs just a bit of a ways out from central Kyoto, but Iโll definitely try to be back on...
ย ย ย Read moreI had my favourite meal in Kyoto here. The cold udon and seasonal vegetables blew my mind. It was so good. The vegetables are tasty, delicately cooked so the intrinsic taste of the vegetables and their crunch is preserved but properly blending well with the stock base. The udon noodles are the best Iโve had. They make all other udon Iโve had in restaurants taste like a pale imitation of the real thing. I donโt live in Japan so probably it will be many years again before I get to eat such perfect udon. This is by far the best noodle dish Iโve ever had, and definitely in my top five most memorable meals. I enjoyed my first bowl so much I ordered a second right away.
This meal suits me since itโs light and more about flavour and texture than calories. I also loved its simplicity which allowed me to focus more on the...
ย ย ย Read moreI ordered cold udon with seven vegetables in dashi soup. It took a while before serving but it definitely worth the time waiting.
The soup is very delicate, combining all ingredients together nicely without interrupting its taste. Aroma of bonito is pronounced elegantly. Noodles is relatively thin, firm and chewy and slippery, I enjoy every bite. Vegetable were prepared separately and has umami favor. The dish is so delicate beyond its price. You can feel the effort the chef put in it.
Warabi mochi is worth trying, they are freshly made, thus melting in your mouth. Perfect finale.
Location may be far from the centre of the town but it will never make...
