Spectacular. Picture this. You walk past looking for a place to eat and peer inside the window to see a solitary man inside a cosy venue of some kind. You pull the chain handle of a heavy door and walk in. The man quickly busies himself to greet you. This man is Akira, your host for the evening. He introduces himself and you choose a stool at the six or seven seat, galley style restaurant. The roof is adorned with pots and pans and a guitar leans against a wall. Akira speaks decent English and gives you a 'menu'. Really, it is a series of sketches. One says 'any allergies?' Another, 'what you like?' with pictures of a chicken, cow and fish. Then he cooks right in front of you. Sure, you can point to the pages at the back and order something familiar. But the real magic is letting him cook whatever he picked up fresh at the market that morning. The food is exquisite. The conversation, delightful. At one stage we even swapped songs on Akira's guitar. Do not miss it. This place is one of a kind. Josh, from...
Read moreIf you’re visiting Kyoto and seeking an unforgettable dining experience, then you must visit Akira. He is undoubtedly one of the kindest people in all of Kyoto. Akira welcomed us into his home and served us one of the best dinners we’ve ever had, a full three-course meal of gourmet quality, complete with dessert, tea, and even drinks afterward.
But it’s not just the food that’s amazing; it’s Akira himself. As an individual, he is heartwarming and joyful. He genuinely cares about his guests and will listen to any requests or dietary restrictions you may have. Akira's knowledge of music is vast, as evidenced by his extensive CD collection. We talked about Japanese shoegaze and My Bloody Valentine, and he even showed us his YouTube channel, where he captures the atmosphere of different places and perfectly sets it to music.
In a world where dining can feel pretentious, Akira's restaurant is a breath of fresh air. It is a beacon of authenticity and warmth. Do yourself a favor and visit...
Read moreEPIC RIP-OFF WARNING: He gave us a plate of salad and small portion of pork. Food's bland and rather mediocre beside of bad hygiene. We politely asked him we will have no more and asked the price, he seemed to put numbers on a calculator meaningless times and asked us to pay ¥5000 for a salad and small pork dish. We told him to check again. Then he said "sorry my mistake my mistake". Explained us salad was 1600 small pork was 500. And gave us back 2000 as a change as if he was giving us 100yen more. After we came to our hotel we found out he gave us 900 less. Such a cheap trick ripping off. His act ruined good memories of Kyoto. Shame on you Akira. You call this a mistake? It was never a mistake if it happens twice, it's a TRICK.
I asked you politely again and you didn't give me a reasonable explanation for how you overcharged that, rather blame me for a greed and block my account? How mean you are....
