First off, the only possible downside, but more likely an upside (lol), they have a one drink policy, so if you go, expect to drink at least a bit. Otherwise, the owner and his wife are super friendly, the curry is absolutely amazing (kinda like a toned down Indian curry, almost sweet, but not sweet, it's amazing), and the drinks selection is great. I recommend the curry and the Sapporo lagger, it's a huge bottle (500ml?) and it's very good. Atmosphere is perfect if you like jazz specifically, when I was there they were playing some very groovy music with jazzy vibes from one of those older tv recordings from the 1990s-2000s of a band playing at a club/venue. The prices are very reasonable, I got 2 drinks and curry(quite a large serving) for 2100¥. Some of the drinks are more expensive than the curry, so it depends on what you get, but the cheapest drinks are like around 500¥. I went right when they opened at 6;30, so it was empty except for me until around 7:10, so I basically ordered and was served the drink and the curry in less then 5 mins. Also, they have English menus. One of the coolest bars I've been to, definitely a highlight for my...
Read moreThis is a must visit if you are in Kyoto! The owner and his wife are amazing. Service is top notch and the atmosphere is super fun. It’s mainly a bar and the alcohol menu is extensive. They offer a ton of interesting drinks. Skip the coca-cola beer. I wish I had, but the bitter orange beer was wicked delicious! The chicken curry was amazing. I added avocado and cheese and I do not regret it. The owner is super into music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and the bar is all music themed with records and posters on the wall. I got lucky and met his high school buddy who just happened to be there and the people he was with were so nice and entertaining. They even bought me a beer which was super cool. I wish I could have tipped them but it’s considered insulting in Japan. But I wanted to show my gratitude and appreciation so maybe I will buy a plant and leave it at their establishment door before i leave Kyoto tomorrow. I visited Maggie’s 2x while I was there and both times were...
Read moreI absolutely loved the vibes here—it's warm, inviting, and creates the perfect atmosphere for hanging out with friends or enjoying a cozy night out.
The menu features delicious curry (not typical Japanese curry) that is full of flavor and punch. The charming decor and laid-back ambiance make it an enjoyable place to savor your meal and relax.
It's worth noting that Maggie's is a smoking bar, which adds a unique character to the environment, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to smoke.
What truly stands out about this place is the lovely couple who run it. Their warmth and hospitality make you feel right at home, and they often take the time to chat with guests, enhancing the...
