Yamaneko Gion Craft Beer and Sake Bar Izakaya — Restaurant in Kyoto

Had a lovely time at Yamaneko so had to come back for seconds! The staff is so welcoming and attentive - we felt right at home after stepping in the door. The vibes are very laidback and positive with lots of great music. Card games are available to play, and they offer free wifi and phone charging cables to borrow if you've burned through your battery while sightseeing. Kids are welcome as well and might just be doted on by the staff as well. :)

We had our favorite sake on the dry sake tasting menu and highly recommend checking it out. Food is tasty (fries, gyoza, nachos, okonomiyaki, etc., depending on the day) and comfort style. Was fun to get a taste for the local brew scene - a highlight...

I visited this place on July 2024, ordering Sake and some beers. Overall I enjoyed my experience here: the staff was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy with good music - perfect combination to enjoy your drinks while talking with your friends or partner. The menu is very wide and I was impressed from the amount of different Sake options that you can find here. Prices are aligned to the location and service provided. Credit cards are accepted. I do suggest this place if you are looking for a quiet bar to drink something while being away from touristic chaos in Kyoto...

I was looking for a place in Kyoto where I could taste sake while having a light dinner with my wife: this was the place! A nice, Japanese-friendly "pub" (izakaya) with a good selection of beer and sake and food like gyoza and okonomiyaki. They have charging points to recharge your smartphone, which was very useful for me as I was running low on battery power. Extremely friendly staff. Good English. The place is in Gion and I was lucky enough to see a maiko on my way back to the hotel. I'd come back here if I were coming...
