Matsumoto has so many modern cool coffee shops, but this is a unique experience you have to add to your time here. A traditional Japanese home opened up for 500 yen/hour (with one drink) and a sweet for an additional 300 yen. Cash only. It’s very sweet and relaxed. I didn’t get a chance to get a little tour, but would love one when I come back. Seeing the greenery out the window, the interesting variety of furniture and furnishings, it just feels like the kind of experience you travel for. Don’t expect a barista drink, and the sweets are packaged goodness, but it’s suitable for the price. The owner is lovely and definitely cares about his business. Love it!

An amazing experience! āœØšŸµšŸŽ¶ In order to preserve this traditional house (machiya) that has survived world war II, the owner opened this cozy cafĆ©. It has a nice retro vibe and you can learn a lot about the l house and its garden, history and culture from the very friendly host. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming like a friend’s living room. Especially after my feet were so cold from visiting Matsumoto castle, it was so comfortable sitting under the traditional heated blanket (kotatsu). Drinks were good and the local Daifuku from Nagano prefecture very yummy. šŸ˜‹šŸ” I am looking forward to our next visit. ā™„ļø

Amazing friendly owner who shares his story, he used to be japanese film maker for tv programme, he travels a lot and speaks good english. This cafe is his grandfathers house built in 18xx and passed down three generations. The cafe is modified from two guestrooms. The house has two floors and a total of seven bedrooms with garden. Owner is now living with uncle and mother. I enjoy chatting with him and know more about the history of the little house. It is very cozy. Under the blanket there is heating and warms your feet. Will definitely recommend for unique experience.
