On a quick one-day stop in Matsumoto we knew we'd have to come by here. Staying at the Matsumoto Hotel Kagetsu, it was a short 10/15 minute walk to get here, it was a very cute shopping street with maybe 20 stores and 10 places to grab a bite to eat. We stopped at the Storytime Cafe (separate review left) for lunch and then strolled through here to shop and take in the sites. Being situated next to a running canal and not busy at all for a Sunday afternoon really added to the atmosphere, if you find yourself in Matsumoto this is a must visit. We were lucky on this particular Sunday to happen by a small "flea market" type area where some food stalls were setup and handicrafts on sale (we purchased an oversized cotton candy for only 600Y and a handmade "cat spoon" for 1,000Y), additionally a Japanese man had his bunnies out and about down by the canal and we were able to pet and feed them, which was super cool! Love Matsumoto, love Nawate...

Nawate Shopping Street is a charming and nostalgic little stretch right by the Metoba River in Matsumoto. It’s not a long street, but it’s packed with character — perfect for a leisurely stroll.

The atmosphere is quaint, with small, locally owned shops selling traditional snacks, handmade crafts, antiques, and quirky frog-themed souvenirs (a fun nod to the street’s frog mascot). You’ll also find a few cozy cafes and sweet shops where you can stop for a quick bite or soft serve ice cream.

It’s a nice place to explore before or after visiting Matsumoto Castle, which is just a short walk away. While it’s more of a cultural experience than a shopping spree, the street offers a glimpse into old-town Japan with a relaxed and...

If you happen to visit Matsumoto Castle, don’t miss this beautiful street that themed as Frog. This street is full of frog themed and other animal key rings, small bags, toys and other things taken as souvenirs by tourists of different countries. In front of the street, lies two frogs but I don’t know much about the history. However, price is overpriced as this place is generally crowded and packed. In between, you can find 100 remarkable waters and temple. There is one Nepali Restaurant named Asian Station which serves momo and Naan with chicken curry. Anyway, the street is fun to walk and spend some...
