We visited this restaurant for omakase and were the only two guests that evening. The price was ¥16,500 per person, which suggested a more elevated experience. Unfortunately, the reality was different.
From the start, the chef seemed rushed and uninterested, immediately slicing nearly all the fish at once rather than preparing each piece or course individually, as is customary in omakase. Doing so for multiple courses in advance detracted from both the ceremony and the freshness that omakase is known for.
The entire meal took only one hour, which added to the sense that we were being rushed. Throughout the meal, the atmosphere was distracting and unrefined: the dishwasher was constantly running loudly in the adjacent kitchen, staff were moving dishes in and out of cabinets right behind the chef, and the chef himself frequently ate while preparing our food. The entire setting felt hurried, as though they were ready to close up for the night.
Hygiene and presentation were below expectations, and the fish was of noticeably low quality and not fresh. There was no sense of the ceremony or attentiveness that usually defines omakase. We were left wondering whether, as foreigners, we were not given the same standard of treatment that Japanese customers would have received.
The overall experience was extremely disappointing. At ¥16,500 per person, the price was wholly unjustified. The food quality, service, and atmosphere did not come close to what one expects from a good omakase. It felt less like fine dining and more like being rushed through a meal, and I left feeling that we had been taken advantage of. We have been to good omakase enough times to know what to expect, and this experience fell far below those standards, especially given the price.
