Takehara — Restaurant in Nachikatsuura

The food here was amazing, their specialty being Maguro Teishoku (Maguro/Tuna Set), and it consists of a plate of beautiful raw Maguro, cooked Maguro with onions, miso soup and rice. As the food was amazing we also ordered another serving of some Kaki Fry (Fried Oyster) and although it took sometime it was very well worth the wait. Many of the locals also ordered things not in the menu, which consisted mainly of specific organs of the Maguro Fish we never heard of.

Even if there is a downside, it’s that the Chef is already very old so food might come a bit slow if you want cooked goods(The Maguro Set is fast, no worries). But as he’s a Master Chef (as proofed by the many famous people who have visited over the years), maybe his age could even be a good attraction/experience. Depending on your preference. I’m not sure as well if they had English menu or spoke English as I ordered everything...

And I had a lot of Tuna fish in my life already - trust me on that :-) Insiders know, the port and fish market of Nachi-Katsuura is one of the best places for Tuna in the world. Explore it, you won't be disappointed.

The little restaurant "Takehara" in Nachi-Katsuura's fish port, fish market & (seafood dominated) restaurant district, is a counter-style place and has about 12 to 14 seats.

The chef and owner takes a lot of pride in selecting the tuna and sorting them according to the kind of tuna and the cut. The sampler plate, called "Naguro-tuna sashimi" for about $15 is a great choice to begin with.

Everything is in Japanese, but Google (image) translate did a great job and as usual in Japan, the menu is loaded with very good images...

Last weekend i went to Kii Katsura for business errands and we decided to find a good place for eat around Kii Katsura station, it was roughly 5pm and all the local restaurants was closed and we were starving at that time. Desperately Looking for restaurant and eventually we found this restaurant. Firstly i doubt to come bcause it doesn’t looks good yet open public. So we decided to come and after I stepped inside I smelled fresh fish makes me more hungry haha I ordered set meal which was ¥1500 and i got 6 sets of food and i most i liked is Tuna!! It was soo freakin good!! And also the onion things i dont what is called but it was amazing food ever and it’s fulfilled my desire! Hahaha...
