On the morning of mid-January 2025, while I was bathing in Bokido, I noticed a person fishing on the nearby rocks and felt uneasy. I reported the situation to a staff member of the Sanjo Kan building where I was staying. The staff member mentioned, "Fishing is an act of voyeurism," so I requested them to contact the police. However, no visible action, including reporting to the police, was taken afterwards.
Later, I reported the same incident to another front desk staff member, as it appeared the information had not been shared internally. After explaining the situation, this staff member also said, "Fishing is an act of voyeurism." However, unless I strongly insisted, no actions such as contacting the police were taken.
From these interactions, I got the impression that there was some internal awareness among the staff about the possibility of voyeurism disguised as fishing. However, there seemed to be no visible preventative measures or warnings provided to guests. Ultimately, I had to contact the police myself, which took up my time during the trip. This experience was deeply disappointing and left me with a strong sense of discomfort. I believe measures should be taken to ensure that guests cannot be seen from outside, such as by fishing parties.
Update (January 15): I later spoke with the hotel’s management, but they stated that they could not confirm that any staff member had said, "Fishing is an act of voyeurism," or that I had requested them to contact the police. Regardless, I strongly feel that immediate measures should be taken to ensure that no one can see into the bathing area from outside so that guests can feel safe while using the facilities. I advise guests to be cautious and mindful of their safety when using this...
Read moreAmazing for the experience of watching the waves crashing onto the shore while you soak in the onsen in a natural cave. I'm giving 4 stars because the price is steep (1500 yen) and the baths themselves are not super clean. The changing area is alright, but the bathing area itself has a lot of algae on the rocks and the weird smell of urine in the shower area. Still worth going just for the unique...
Read moreCool onsen in a cave. 2500 yen fee. A bit hard to get to because you need to ride the ferry that looks like a turtle, or park in a far away lot and ride their bus. We parked in a random closer lot and walked in through some tunnels and the back entrance but that...
