稲栄 — Restaurant in Nagasaki

My wife is from Nagasaki and on our last trip to Japan we first went to Nagasaki. My wife had heard great things about this restaurant, so we went downtown one evening and looked for it in the area where she thought it was. Luckily, we found it!! We were graciously received by the chef and his brother (boat captain) when we walked in. We sat at the bar for the next two plus hours eating whatever we asked for and mostly what the chef created for us. There was no menu, but no surprises when the bill came. We had multiple bottles of Kirin and sake, as well. It was an incredible experience and we just marveled at the chef's creations and fresh fish that was caught that day by the captain (brother). If you're going to eat sushi/sashimi and seafood in Nagasaki, it has to be at this restaurant! IT WAS SIMPLY THE BEST SUSHI/SASHIMI...

Outstanding seafood restaurant. 50 years old. This is a significant jumps up from your standard izakaya. One brother catches the fish (line) and the other is the sushi master. Trained in Tokyo. You get what was caught to a large extent. The fish is very high quality. Octopus, oysters, charcoal grilled prawns, urchin, conger eel and more. It's omakase. Get them to choose a sake to match. Expect to pay but it's worth every cent. Service and atmosphere is excellent. They are great people and I can't speak more highly of...

We spent 10 days doing a big loop around Kyushu and this was by far the most memorable dining experience. The food was excellent, the freshest sushi/sashimi one could ask for. Huge oysters, maybe the best I've ever had. The place is run by two brothers, the elder one has his own fishing boat, the younger one is mostly the chef and entertainer. Seriously, the younger brother is such a happy and funny guy. We ate and drank to our hearts content and the bill was around 20-25k total...
