Kissa Zoumeshi — Restaurant in Nagoya

I'm not sure what caused my sudden obsession with kissatens. However, NHK World showcased the Showa-era retro-vintage coffee shops on one of their food shows, and I was hooked. Not only that but Nagoya is known for its cheap breakfast sets which my husband and I wanted to try. This spot fit the bill perfectly, and it had the added benefit of being a five-minute walk from Noritake Garden which we wanted to visit anyway.

That's how we ended up taking the half-hour trek from our hotel. It wasn't quite full when we arrived, so we got a table right away. We noticed there were a lot of elephant tchotchkes all over the place including their parfaits and ice cream sundaes. I ordered the ¥1,078 Egg Sandwich with ground beef, pork miso, and a mix of mustard and Kewpie mayo. That was one thick slab of egg, pleasantly fluffy encased in melty slices of milk bread.

The meatier elements were surprisingly subtle. Jamie kinda went for dessert as breakfast with the ¥748 Espresso Affogato, a delightfully caffeinated retro-style treat topped with their housemade elephant cookies. I must've gotten jealous because I ordered a couple of the ¥90 Elephant Cookies to go with my full-throttle ¥605 Iced Coffee. Honestly this was the type of kissaten breakfast I was looking for to start our day in Nagoya.

FOOD - 5 stars... just the old school egg sando I was aching for AMBIANCE - 5 stars...authentically retro vibe and not that kitschy SERVICE - 4 stars...really efficient and as warm as they had time to be TOTAL - 5 stars...definitely stop by if...

A cute little cafe on a quiet street. We were there for a late tea break and was the last group seated with a couple ahead of us.

西尾のお味噌屋さん、今井醸造のお味噌を使った味噌煮込み、お味噌屋さんの味噌煮込みは、さぞかし美味しいのではないかと、行ってみたら、自称　結構味噌煮込みを食べ歩いた自分には特筆するほどは、お味噌屋さんのお味噌だからと思うものではなかったです。期待し過ぎたかな。 餅は餅屋という言葉があるし、うどんとか味噌煮込みうどんの専門店じゃないので、 あくまでカフェめしの延長で、味噌煮込みもあるよ的に考えるといいのかも。 オーダーして待つ間、テーブル上のパフェの写真見てたら、それはちょっと映えな感じでした。 【味噌煮込みうどん　赤】 麺★★★★山本屋を少し太くした感じ。 角の丸い麺。 スープ★★★ダシの感じはあまり感じない。 量★★少なめ。男性はご飯ないと足りない。 紙エプロンは聞いて下さいます。

それはさておき、テレビで放送されたのは確かカレー味噌煮込み？茶色の丸っこくてぽってりした土鍋が他のお店とは違って、いかにもカフェっぽくて可愛いと思ったのですが、いたって普通の土鍋で提供されました。 あれはカレー味噌煮込みの時に使われる土鍋？あれ、可愛かったです。

外の列、自分の時はナシ。 並ぶ寸前台帳は白紙状態。丁度カップルがひと組帰り、まず名前を書いたとこで、またすぐ2人帰ったので、もしかして今入れるのか、外から中の様子は見えないので、ドアを開けてみましたがすぐ気付いてはもらえず、 中程まで入ってこちらから聞きました。 テーブルが空いたら順番にお呼びしますと言われましたが、4人も帰って、消毒があるといってもそんなに時間かかるかなと、そこはちょっと思いました。 私のすぐ後に並んだ2人のうちの、1人は待てずに書いた名前に線を引いて、帰っていかれてました。 せっかく時間かけて味噌煮込み目的に行って、今回は待ちの先頭で良かったのですが、人手足りてないのかな？

お水のおかわりはセルフです、 お店は2時間までですと、席に着いたら言われます。 （ダイジョウブ🙆‍♀️ 自分は、食べたらさっさと帰るタイプですと思いながら聞いていました） ひと言、寒い中お待たせしましたとか あったらホッコリするんですけど、こちらは利用のルールを先に言われますwww。 ご利用は、2時間までです→ハーイ。🙋‍♂️ってね。
