I had a very disappointing and unhygienic experience at this restaurant. While eating my halo-halo, I discovered a strand of hair tightly wrapped in the ice. At that point I had only eaten the toppings like ice cream and leche flan, and when I started mixing it, I immediately saw the hair. I brought it right away to the counter, expecting a proper replacement. Instead, they simply removed the hair and served the same halo-halo back to me which is careless and completely unsanitary.
What made things worse was the girl inside the kitchen who I believe is the owner murmuring loudly in a rude and unprofessional way. She even blamed me, saying I should have told them earlier, when in fact I returned it as soon as I saw the hair. She also insisted that I should have brought the halo-halo directly to their kitchen window, but how would I even know such a rule exists, especially when it was their own staff who took it to the kitchen. She even insulted her own staff by calling them incompetent and kept shifting the blame instead of owning up to the problem.
A customer who politely raises a food safety concern should never be treated with blame and disrespect. I expected a proper replacement and an apology, but instead I was met with unsanitary handling, excuses, and a very bad attitude from the supposed owner. With this kind of service and hygiene, I cannot recommend this...
Read moreI was recommended by a Filipino friend to try halo halo, and La Merienda was the closest shop, so I stopped by!
I’d never had it before, but it was absolutely delicious! I got the small (5 ingredients), and the different flavors and textures mixed together to create a really unique dessert. Perhaps next time I will get 7?
The owners were very kind and helpful, explaining how to both order and properly eat the dessert.
As for the shop itself, it is compact and homely, and gives a sense that your food is authentic. I loved the vibes, and will be sure to stop by again whenever I...
Read moreVery tasty authentic halo halo shop. Staff are also Philipino. If you are unfamiliar with the dessert, ask the friendly and cheerful staff for the "best mix". Ube ice cream wasn't available at the time, which was a little pity, but the halo halo was sweet and fun. Mix well before you eat it. The only thing is the price, which I thought was little high. Perhaps the imported ingredients add up. Will...
