I liked this place. We went here after walking around Nagoya Castle for a few hours. We were tired and hungry and this place really hit the spot.
Saien is on a strip to the east of Nagoya Castle that is filled with eateries. Making the decision to try this place took some debate and convincing, but my group made the right decision.
The exterior is done up with signs and pictures of the food. The interior was dark, cool, and the perfect amount of breeze. It felt great to get out of the sun and off our feet.
The interior was wood themed and felt natural and organic. The shelves were decorated with kitschy American decor. The rear of the seating area had a nice view of the greenery of the boulevard. They played American classic music like The Beatles and The Beachboys.
I ordered the softshell crab burger. The presentation was neat and attractive. They put a "saien" flag in the burger with a toothpick. The burger was on a sunshine shaped plate with a napkin. It was alright but not great.
The burger itself wasn't that great but not bad It looked better than it tasted. And I was hungry so I would be giving generous marks for taste. We also had fried chicken wings.
Overall, the place is convenient, the decor was interesting, the food was average. It was a really nice place to go after a few hours of walking...

saien vegetable and saefood bar (marked M5) is located in the trendy Muneharu Zone of Kinshachi Yokocho. Sited close to Nagoyajo Station's Exit 7, this conspicuous café-bar has a pretty extensive menu of Japanese-Western fusion delights - chopped salad, seafood, burgers, Kinshachi soft-serve ice cream and kakigori shaved ice (summer only) etc. Whether a quick pit-stop or cozy full dining spot, saien is THE place to be, to relax with good food, drinks and company😋👍💪 We'll swing by again for sure when we visit Nagoya Castle...
Read moreOrdered soft shell crab burger and the teriyaki plate with a beer and lemonade. Don't waste money on the lemonade, it is nothing more than really weak lemon water. The beer was so so. The crab burger was good, though small. The majority of these 4 stars comes from the teriyaki plate which hit all the happy taste buds. The grill on the chicken is like a yakitori place, the fries and rice were both good, and the soup in mug had a great flavor and the spoon was actually a miniature shovel!. Kinda expensive, but was happy...
