Yoshinoya — Restaurant in Nagoya

This is not my first or second Yoshinoya visit, but first visit of this place, however. Yoshinoya is known and said to maintain the flavour, quite high standard and quality of their food. Which I admit, it was true until I visited this place. The staff, guy with hat, most likely bald, seemed somehow annoyed, however he was polite. But from what we heard, his attitude was also to other customers, not just us. I cannot really describe it, but he really felt annoyed, like the customers were bothering him. Do not get me wrong, I have worked in similar environment and sometimes the customers do get strange ideas or infect you with their bad mood. But they are also your source of income.

The yolk/white dividers we have got seemed bit dirty and could use more cleaning, not just showering.

The food in here felt somehow average. We have had gyuudon and C set which was kimchi and miso soup. Kimchi was typicaly japanese made - sweeter, less sour and not spicy at all. Korean kimchi is more sour, usually more spicy as well. Miso was fine. But the gyuudon felt somehow mediocre. I have had it several times and the flavour was always fine, despite it's low price. But this time, it felt almost without any real flavour.

This place was somehow disappointing, since I have visited here with my family, who came to Japan for visit and I wanted to show them most basic food which you can get here. And as for the staff - I cannot really complain, maybe he has just had bad day, or I have missunderstood his attitude. I would not fire him or so, do not get me wrong. He just should show different attitude to the customers. Eventhough he was NOT being rude.

24-hour gyudon restaurants are one of the reasons why I love living in Japan. Gyudon restaurants are also always in walking distance of wherever you are, most of the time. I ordered a oomori negi tamago gyudon with raw egg, for something like 770¥. Don’t complain that it’s not a5 wagyu, but rather enjoy the fact that you can get something quick, filling, and cheap.. anytime. Thank goodness the one near my home is 24 hours too. Some do...

Does the job 😉 You’re not going to Yoshinoya for fancy cuisine but most likely for cheap, fast, good value for money and 24/24h available food. Which is exactly what it does. Have been there a few...
