Kin Agu Shabu Shabu was our first dining experience in Okinawa, right after we arrived and checked in. Hungry and eager to try local cuisine, we decided to visit this renowned restaurant that offers shabu-shabu with a distinct Okinawan twist.
The restaurant adheres to a strict set-menu format, and we opted for the pork and beef set. The meal was thoughtfully curated, beginning with a delightful appetizer, followed by premium cuts of Okinawan pork and beef, fresh vegetables, and seaweed as a special accompaniment to the pork. The shabu-shabu experience featured two types of broth—one tailored for pork and the other for beef—each enhancing the flavors of the respective meats beautifully.
Every element of the meal was meticulously prepared. The meats were tender and flavorful, while the vegetables were fresh and vibrant. The seaweed pairing with the pork was a unique touch that added depth to the dish. Overall, the food quality was exceptional, making it one of the best shabu-shabu experiences we’ve had.
However, it’s worth noting that this level of quality comes at a premium price. The set menu costs approximately 9000¥ per person, so be prepared for a luxurious dining experience. While pricey, Kin Agu Shabu Shabu delivers on taste, presentation, and service, making it a worthwhile splurge for those seeking authentic Okinawan flavors in an...
Read moreVery good shabu shabu shop (sign is that of 3 black pigs) showcasing best of Okinawan - beef / pork & local vegetables! Happened to chance upon this gem of a restaurant the night after typhoon passed (seems usually booked out in advance), which was stone's throw from Don Quijote and WBF Art Stay hotel. We ordered 2 sets (1 pork only / other is pork 4980yen + beef combo 6980yen). It comes with small trio of appetisers, pot of local vegetables, dessert, carbs at end (basically noodles added to leftover soup) and also split into 2 soup base in a pot (1 for pork 1 for beef). The meat came with portion of umibudo (sea grapes) on the side, and boy did it elevate the taste and texture of the already good meat (alongside yuzu kosho / ponzu sauce). English menu is available via ipad option, and there was a couple of staff with small command of English as well. Only 2 downside here was we were told we can't order 1 set to share (had to order 2 for 2 pax), but i feel it could have been a miscomm, and other was they didn't quite explain where each different cut of meat came from (we saw different name tags on meat portions). It was so good we tried to go for dinner again on our final night, but they were already booked out then. A high recommendation, if only just for the local vege showcase (since other restaurants also has usual beef /...
Read moreJust had to spill the beans about my recent culinary escapade at Kin Agu Shabu Shabu – and trust me, it’s a pork lover’s dream come true!
🐖 The Pork – A Divine Experience: The Agu pork here is nothing short of legendary. Tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, it’s like the wagyu of the pork world. Each slice melts in your mouth, leaving you in a state of pure bliss.
🥩 The Beef – Good, But Not the Star: The beef was decent, but let’s be honest, it played second fiddle to the pork. If you’re a beef enthusiast, you might find better options elsewhere, but for pork aficionados, this is the place to be.
🥗 Fresh Veggies & Delightful Appetizers: The vegetables were incredibly fresh, adding a crisp contrast to the rich meats. The appetizers set the tone for the meal, tantalizing the taste buds and building anticipation for the main event.
🍨 Ice Cream – The Perfect Finale: Ending the meal with their ice cream was like the cherry on top. Creamy, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness to cleanse the palate.
📅 Pro Tip – Reserve in Advance: This place is popular, and for good reason. To avoid disappointment, make sure to reserve a table in advance. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this porky paradise!
Can’t wait to return for another round of that...
