Okinawa's International Street Food Village, known as a famous gourmet gathering place, should ideally be a place for travelers to experience the local culinary culture. However, for me, there were some unfriendly aspects that significantly diminished my experience. Below is my experience from my visit on the 11th.
Language Barrier First, the language barrier is one of the main issues foreign tourists face. Most of the stall staff only speak Japanese and lack English or other language signs and communication skills, making it difficult for many tourists who do not understand Japanese. Even if some stalls provide Chinese menus, the translated menus are limited to set meals, restricting diversity and flexibility in choices.
Service Attitude Regarding service attitude, it was merely average. Due to the language barrier, interactions with the staff were limited to ordering food, and it was impossible to have deeper conversations. Learning some Japanese would be more helpful for better interactions with the staff.
Dining Environment The environment is somewhat similar to a relatively clean night market. Since smoking is allowed, the air is often filled with a strong smell of smoke, which can be an issue for those who dislike it.
Food The taste of the skewers was decent, but the clams were not cleaned properly, leaving sand, which was unpleasant. Additionally, the portion sizes were small, making it less cost-effective.
Conclusion In summary, for tourists who do not speak Japanese, the experience here may not be very good. My experience was very unpleasant, and I probably won't come back. If you speak Japanese, you might have a better experience.

Read moreKokusai Food Village is a total sensory overload! It's definitely touristy, but the energy is infectious. You're basically wandering through a maze of tiny, brightly lit stalls, each one more unique than the last. The smells hit you first – smoky grills, sweet spices, and the unmistakable aroma of something deep-fried. I honestly couldn't resist. The food was incredible – every bite was a flavor explosion. If you go, go at night. The lights, the music, the whole scene just comes alive. It's a...
