So there are couple of places that you can get really good Okinawa local food at great prices.
Authentically cooked by Okinawa aunties, taste like home.
First is Mikasa which I usually visit everytime I go there but this time, we decide to change to another place which is one min walking distance away from it and is called Mikado. Mikado is famous for a few dishes but honestly, I bet everything on the menu is awesome.
We decided to get their famous Champon, funny we were joking Champon for champions, not hard to see why because it is like an ankake on rice, a large amount of rice which is then blanketed by a large amount of vegetables fried with corn beef hash in an addictive savoury & sweet sauce and a large omelette, top it off with some fresh green vege, some Okinawa soul food all mixed into one.
I had the Fuchikina which is gluten fried with eggs, spam, loads of veges with some sea chicken, sprinkle some hot chili powder and this goes so well with the side of rice and miso soup. A piece of home in Okinawa. Next we also ordered the beef and tofu cooked in garlic sauce, no way this is not good with this combination, another great pairing of Japanese white rice.
Now when you are here, you have to get the jimami tofu, that is peanut tofu drizzled with brown sugar syrup. I don’t know how this place does it, but by far the best I have tried because the tofu has a mochi texture and every bite was heavenly, we ended up order another one because everyone want additional bites to it.
This place is getting quite popular with tourist but glad the food is still as authentic, and the price also kept at local prices too. Definitely will come back here in next visit, if only I can have the stomach to have a Mikasa goya champuru (bitter gourd stir fry) after this, then it will be a perfect night...
Read moreOkinawan dishes cooked in a homely manner by a troop of Japanese oba-sans! They have brought heart-warming and belly-filling dishes to the public at extremely affordable prices and large portions. These ladies are so experienced and efficient, it was a joy watching them work in their open-style kitchen.
The restaurant was fairly busy even at about 11pm. It operates long hours, catering to the breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper crowds.
My dish was traditional tofu soup, served with a fried egg, salmon, salad and white rice. The tofu packs a moderate firm bite which gives a very handmade feel to it. This was the highlight of my meal.
The other dish was a stir-fry comprising of corned beef, vegetables and egg. This dish was really tasty because of the corned beef, and goes perfectly with a bed of steaming hot white rice.
I’d say this restaurant is great value-for-money to savor the local cuisine in a comforting homemade style as our grandmas or mothers would whip up a sumptuous meal at home!
If you return to this restaurant, do try their...

Nice and simple. Nothing fancy.
From steak to Okinawa food. They have everything.
Cheap, reasonable for a Japanese restaurant within the city.
Quite a crowd at 10pm but we got seats in about a minute.
Paid parking beside it off the main road.
No wifi.
I ordered Chapon. I think it was ok. Serving size was generous. Chapon was more than 200g. Rice was about 200g. Their menu highlighted recommended dishes. They have English and...
