Café Ippo — Restaurant in Naoshima

We came to this place on a Sunday morning as it was open early and we managed to get the last (out of 3) tables. The place is run by an elderly lady and the menu is quite limited. We had the breakfast sets as the cakes were still baking. The food was ok, nothing bad but nothing special: a very simple breakfast with toast, salad and egg. The place felt very cozy, although with 3 groups inside it felt a bit crammed. The service was ok, although a bit slow as the lady is running the place by herself. We were starving after a hard morning of art'ing it up on Naoshima island. Lots of places weren't open but we were very glad to find this little gem. The place is very homely and cute and is run by one very friendly lady. Our Japanese is not very good and she kindly sat patiently with us and had a chat. There isn’t really much of a choice - there’s a set lunch for ¥1000 which was chicken based (vegetarian option for slightly more ¥) or a cake and drink set for ¥700.

The lunch was nice - it came with rice, vegetable soup, and some kind of vegetable side. The chicken was tender and had a nice sauce. It came with lovely sweet potato. It had a yuzu twist going on as well...
