Kanoko — Restaurant in Nara

This restaurant offers a wonderfully cozy atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. Despite the place being quite busy, we were served surprisingly quickly, showing how efficiently the staff manages even a full house. As we were leaving, the owner took the time to have a pleasant chat with us, adding a personal touch to our visit.

The seating options are a nice blend of Western and Japanese styles, catering to different preferences. The menu is concise and mainly features fried dishes, which were delicious. However, the only downside was the price of the cola. It felt a bit overpriced, especially since the glass was filled more with ice cubes than with the actual drink. Was looking for a place to stop by for lunch. Stumbled upon this cute looking restaurant owned by a lovely couple. Whilst the owners were very polite and kind it took around 10 minutes for us to be given the menu, another 15 minutes before our orders could be taken and over 1hr waiting time...even after this time our food still was not in the process of preparation. The restaurant was not even that busy. Due to time constraints we decided to leave without having our food (our food was still not being prepared at the time of leaving). La scoperta più bella del nostro viaggio in Giappone! Terminata la nostra visita mattutina a Nara, a diretto contatto coi suoi famosi cervi, dovevamo pranzare prima di ripartire e abbiamo notato questo piccolo e delizioso locale su una strada molto tranquilla e per nulla trafficata, e abbiamo deciso di entrare.

Ci ha accolto il proprietario, simpaticissimo e sempre sorridente, che gentilmente ci ha chiesto di toglierci le scarpe all'ingresso prima di farci accomodare. Già da questo capisci di essere entrato nel ristorante giusto per vivere l'autentica esperienza di un pasto giapponese. Noi abbiamo scelto il tavolo che affaccia sul piccolo ma incantevole giardino della proprietà, e l'atmosfera era magnifica, per noi che siamo italiani sembrava di essere tornati ai bei tempi del classico pranzo della domenica dai nonni. E infatti a servirci al tavolo c'era un'anziana signora di una dolcezza infinita, forse la mamma del proprietario (spero di non dire una fesseria, nel qual caso perdonatemi!), che ci ha portato il menu rispondendo a tutte le nostre domande e curiosità, si vede che sono abituati ai turisti e questo è un altro punto a loro favore.

Di piatti ce ne sono tanti, io avevo l'imbarazzo della scelta, alla fine ho optato per una delle cose che i giapponesi sanno fare meglio, ovvero noodles con riso e anguilla arrosto, buonissimo, e i prezzi sono onesti considerando l'esperienza nel suo insieme.

Prima di andarcene hanno persino accettato di fare un selfie con noi, e in quel frangente il proprietario ci ha spiegato che il locale è aperto da ben 40 anni e nel ringraziarlo col solito "arigatou gozaimasu" ci ha insegnato un vocabolo che porterò sempre nel cuore, ovvero "okini", che per i giapponesi esprime la massima gratitudine possibile.
