Summary: Incredibly tasty food, exceptional service and cosy atmosphere in Nara - the cheesecake is not to be missed!
Details: Rokkan Room offers a memorable dining experience in Nara. The food is extremely tasty and incredibly well prepared, and stands out for its quality. We tried two of the three dishes on the menu: a curry and noodles. Both were so delicious that it was impossible to choose one over the other (I couldn't recommend either, both are excellent), offering a choice whether you prefer a dish with broth (noodles) or not (curry). The service is a strong point of the place. The person in charge of welcoming and serving diners manages to create an atmosphere of great comfort, making visitors feel at home thanks to her respect and attention. To finish off the meal, the cheesecake turned out to be a great choice. In addition to the excellent food and service, Rokkan Room has three different atmospheres. One of them, located in the basement, offers a particularly pleasant, quiet and dimly lit space, ideal for concentrating and fully enjoying the flavours of the food. All in all, Rokkan Room is, for me, the best place to visit in Nara and probably in all of Japan, making it a highly...

Captures the vibe is 90's art cafes I love with cleanliness, excellent service and delicious food. Established 2020.
The cafe is in an old house, so the rooms are from the original architecture. Take your shoes off at the door and choose one of the 3 rooms.
There are 3 rooms to choose from: basement room, library, loft room with shared table. This place, like all kissaten, is the antithesis to the modern "glass and modern minimalist but no personality" cafe. We all need a change sometimes and Rokan Room is a beautiful soulful alternative. I adore this place.
Art books everywhere. The decor is mismatched but extremely cosy, comfortable and warm. This place invites you to read, create while enjoying food and drink. Quirky, yet cool, this place is like a slice of perfect Harlem cool, Hanoi chic, Kerala colour and Shanghai style.
Staff speak English, they're caring and kind and welcoming.
This cafe, like a great friend has personality, warmth, generosity, knowledge, style and confidence. And the food is great, at a...
Read moreAn absolute gem of a cafe, and one that you could pass by a dozen times and not know how cool and eclectic it was until you walked through the threshold and into the doors of the Rokkan Room. Especially with how many different cafes and great places to eat, drink and chill in Nara, you have to be especially lucky to stumble upon this place. We were guided into the upstairs “padded” room, and when I mean padded, I mean knitted blankets covering the floor to about halfway the walls. This made it incredibly cozy and the perfect place for an afternoon tea. But on this day, it was scorching in Nara and the only way I could cool down was with a melon soda cream. It was perfect. I know it’s hard to mess this up, but enjoying it here made it perfect. It’s a space you want as a kid to play in, a teenager to lounge in, and an adult to escape from the world. And that’s what makes Rokkan...
