Kinukake-chaya — Local services in Nara

Delicious and refreshing udon! Tiny spot right on the pond run by an older couple who were very kind and welcoming. As it was a warmer day, I got the cold udon with beef and an egg, and enjoyed very tranquil views while eating very yummy noodles. It was flavorful without being heavy at all, and the egg was perfectly soft boiled (you will probably need a spoon to eat it). If needed, there’s an English menu available as well as lots of pictures on the walls/sign outside.

A really small restaurant with only 4 tables right beside the lake. It has such a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere which makes eating here such a calming experience. The food itself is great. The udon has a great texture and the soup has good flavours. I would have loved to see a bit more variations in the cold options but it was still pretty good. The restaurant is operated by older people and even so, they were quite efficient. The food was served under 5 minutes and the old man was running around. The service was patient and respectful as expected from such a restaurant. I ate in here while I was in Nara. There is only 4 seats and I was so lucky that I only waited for 2 minutes. It's a typical udon restaurant with reasonable price, and the scenery of the pond is so beautiful. When I first saw the place, I thought it would be deadly expensive but they surprised me. I totally recommend eating here, especially to the tourists.
