☕ great coffeehouse in Niigata, with good vibes and even better coffee. both the service and the coffee served here are consistently top-drawer. the lighting is tastefully dim, the decor subtle and classy, and jazz music is played in the background; definitely some dark academia vibes when it's less crowded.

🎯 this place is easy to spot from the street; it's housed in a dark-shaded building that contrasts from it's surroundings. from the front, the café itself is accessible via the rightmost door, besides a glasspane with the text "Chamonix..." on it. upon entering, there's a little corridor to go down before you get to the tables. the washroom is to the right—elavated slightly—when walking down this corridor. the counter is around this area as well, also to the right. there are several two-seater tables that are suitable if you're solo. smoking is permitted.

新潟駅から車で10分、新潟市の古くからの中心街である古町エリアにあるレトロな雰囲気の喫茶店「シャモニー」。新潟市のランドマーク「萬代橋」近くで、ビジネスホテル「東横INN新潟古町」の向かいにある。

こちらの上大川通にあるのが本店で1973年の創業。古町通りのアーケード商店街にも支店があり、古町エリアに2店舗を展開している老舗喫茶店。以前は新潟駅構内の「CoCoLo新潟 本館」にも支店があったが、そちらは2021年12月末で閉店している。

自家焙煎のコーヒーを楽しめる喫茶店としてオープンして以来、焙煎歴50年のオーナー野沢さんが自ら豆を選定し、毎日使う分だけ焙煎している。店内や店頭販売以外にも、飲食店やスーパーにもコーヒー豆を卸しているので1ヶ月に800kg～1tも焙煎することもあるそうだ。

濃茶の木目と濃赤のビロードで仕上げられた落ち着いた店内は、創業当時から変わらないノスタルジックな雰囲気。昭和レトロを感じさせるクラシカルな調度品でまとめられている。

昔ながらの喫茶店らしく全席喫煙可能。長年地元の人達に親しまれている人気店で、平日休日問わず、日中は地元のお客さんで満席になる日も多い。

店内に一際存在感を放つ大きなスピーカーはJBL社の最高傑作「PARAGON（パラゴン）D44000」。昭和のジャズ喫茶など音にこだわる喫茶店で導入されていた最高級スピーカーシステムで、1983年に製造終了しているが、オーディオマニアの間ではカルト的な人気を誇る名機。オークションなどでは数百万円の価格で落札されることも多い。

高級スピーカーから流れるクラシック音楽に包まれながら、本を読んだり、手紙を書いたりと、コーヒーの芳ばしい香りを嗅ぎながらゆっくりと過ごすのに最適なお店。

ドリンクのメニューは、一杯ずつサイフォンで淹れるコーヒーやエスプレッソ、水出しコーヒー、紅茶やココア、ジュースなど。サイフォンコーヒーは熟練の技と経験で豆の種類を組み合わせたブレンドと、単一品種の豆だけで抽出するストレートがあり、色々な味わいのコーヒーをラインナップ。

トーストやケーキ、スパゲッティなど昭和レトロな喫茶店でイメージする軽食のラインナップも提供されており、奇をてらわない安定感。朝7時の開店から午後2時まではトースト各種とドリンク、サラダのお得なセットメニューがある。
