I usually don’t write bad reviews, but my disappointment was immeasurable to say the least. I’ve eaten at this restaurant before and it left a good impression, so much so that when i came to visit again, this time with my parents as I was showing them around. Checked on Instagram and it said to call to make a reservation, so I tried calling once in the morning before they opened. Second try around 11am they answered and told me that they couldn’t take reservations. No explanation really given, except to just come in person in the evening. So, we did that. Arriving at 7:00pm, was immediately told that they were full despite me taking a peak inside and seeing empty tables, as well as several parties leaving the restaurant soon after we arrived. Again, no real explanation given. I said we could wait, they again said “no waiting”. I understand if you are busy, but a simple a very simple, short explanation would’ve been suffice instead of just shooing us off, especially since we dragged ourselves across town to come here. “Sorry, we’re sold out for the day” or “sorry, we ran out of such and such”. I’ve lived here for long enough to know that this type of service is definitely subpar. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but again doesn’t excuse the customer service. Again, extremely disappointed. Would not be giving my recommendation to this place for the time being. Maybe in the future I would be willing to give this place...
Read moreWe recently visited a charming restaurant called Furuhashi in Nikko town, Japan, and had a truly memorable experience. The restaurant is family-run, and what made it even more special is that it’s located within their own home, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We enjoyed a delightful dinner, ordering two set meals, each featuring a different main dish. The food was wonderful, but the highlight of our visit was the incredible service provided by Iki, the daughter of the owners. Iki was exceptionally knowledgeable about the local area and even helped us plan our itinerary for the next day. She checked the weather for us and gave great advice on whether we should visit the lake or the falls.
Throughout the evening, Iki told us about her family, including her brother, who is a professional hockey player and part of Japan's championship team. Her warmth and hospitality made our dinner not just a meal but a memorable experience.
Overall, the food, the ambiance, and Iki's personal touch made this one of the best dining...
Read moreDinner for 3 on a Monday evening in Nikko after a day of hiking and sightseeing. Friendly family diner serving a variety of set meals and a la carte. My dinner partners had the fried chicken set menu (vegetable soup, potato salad, pickled vegetables, rice and a plate of delicious fried chicken), whilst I had the wonderful sardines in plum sauce with same set menu side dishes. Popular with visitors and locals, it is first come first served, and there are about 25 seats. Three set dinners, a side of French fries, 2 lovely desserts (pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate gateau), beer and ginger ale - all for a total of Y7500. Best value in Nikko. Friendly attentive service and parking available for 4 cars. David W,...
