The shop lady was incredibly sweet. I was looking for lunch and happened to walk past the shop, where she kindly offered me free samples of the mochi w brown sugar. Although they were cold, they were delicious, so I decided to order the hot fried ones. The exterior was perfectly crunchy, and the red bean filling was delightful—sweet but not overpowering. It was so good that I even brought some back to Singapore!

Definitely a big recommendation to try out this place. Each piece is only 240YEN and it’s super close to Rinnoji and Toshogu Shrine.

Small dessert place you will encounter walking back into town from Futarasan Shrine, head here instead of taking the bus back!! The dorayaki is nice but definitely get the Nikko kariman, eating it freshly fried is so satisfying!

A must-try! This shop’s deep-fried brown sugar buns with azuki and brown sugar mochi are absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness from the red bean and brown sugar.

The store has been open since 1885 and offers free samples so you can try before you buy. You can purchase them as a gift or enjoy them later—they’ll even explain how to reheat them for the best flavor. Or eat them fresh—they’re made to order!

Probably the best sweet I have eaten in Japan and believe me I have a very large sample size! This is quite an unusual sweet and has a perfectly crispy exterior, delicious anko and a sweet gooey centre. Do yourself a favour and get one each, don't share!
