Had very high hopes for this place after reading many positive reviews. The staff were great and very friendly, but unfortunately the food spoke to the lower star reviews. The food was mediocre - maybe half as good as other places in town, and almost 8x the price. The portions were small, especially given the price tag, which is fine as long as the food is outstanding. Its not the cheapest option in town, nor should it be - apple fed beef, Nagano Merlot (amazing) even the rice is delicious!!?? - I always make it my 'last harrah' on my yearly trip to Nozawa - I seem to mingle with some great characters who are also in the know about Tanuki - Great place to finish on a high note. See you next...
