First red flag: Being greeted by a Caucasian server, with Caucasian staff in the kitchen.
This should have made us run the other way, but too tired to look for alternatives, we decided to take a risk.
BAD MOVE.
We'd rather have gone hungry than eat at this joint.
Ordered shoyu ramen which looked ghastly to begin with - the broth wasn't soy sauce dark but almost clear. We added soy sauce from the table into our ramen, and only then did it have a tinge of shoyu ramen-ness to it. But boy, was it greasy.
The plate of gyozas were AWFUL. Never had anything like that in my life. Nothing crispy about them, and the filling tasted weird. Definitely made by people who have either never tasted gyoza before or couldn't be bothered about the quality of food they're serving.
Service was mediocre at best. The server was busy chatting with kitchen staff throughout the entire process of them preparing our meal, and didn't seem professional at all. Definitely backpacker vibes.
Every time we passed by people standing outside this restaurant, wondering if they should check it out, we wanted to do all we can to stop them from making a huge mistake.
Seriously unauthentic Japanese style Chinese food, and the WORST there ever is. Go see that video of Gordon Ramsay making Japanese ramen and you'll get...
Read moreIf you need sustenance, want to eat noodles and soup, don't want cup noodles and want to order in English, and have no idea of what Ramen is, then this place is for you. If you want to eat Ramen, go somewhere else. Its amateur hour here 24/7 and they have no idea. I have no issue with Westerners making Ramen, or Asians making Pizza, just do it right. These blokes cannot be professionals, its gotta be backpackers hired by the owner. The broth was watery and lacked flavour, they ran out of Chashu at 6:30, the kitchen staff swore like troopers, real classy when there are primary school kids in the place. Providing clean glasses for customers was a strain. Do yourself a favour, don't bother going here. In hindsight cup Ramen from the Combini would have been a better option. This place was open and seats available, we...
Read moreThis place is between a 2 star at best. OK if you want a ramen fix and can't speak Japanese. (I walked by, and dropped in) I should have read the reviews....
I was told there was no meat gyoza, I was made to order the shisho gyoza, which was ok regardless.
Soon after, like 5 minutes after, customers started to order the meat gyoza and were able to....
I'm not sure if I was disrespected, or they actually had no meat gyoza.
The noodles are not that good, not great as everyone says.
The staff were OK, but when I saw non Japanese in the kitchen I was a little concerned. Ramen needs care and heart, a working holiday backpacker shouldn't be in a ramen kitchen sorry...
*edit, gave this place a 1 star because I woke up dehydrated from all the salt used in the ramen. I didn't even get the Salt ramen and it was...
