Based on previous reviews we expected to have a great meal here, what we didn’t expect was the incredibly warm welcome by Itamae-San Kogame Hideki, the ladies that work with him and even the regulars that were eating there. This was Japanese hospitality at its best: warm and good natured. Itamae-San even taught us how to roll our own delicious maki for our lunch the next day. The traditional style sushi was incredible, fresh and delicious, but our favourite thing was the hirezake (fugu fish fin sake), it tasted like sitting by the fire at the beach on a cold evening. I'd say the the chef, staff and patrons were the highlight of Sushi Kame if the food wasn't some of the best I've had in Japan (which is to say the best ever). The style is recommendedation only, so you get what the chef is making at the time, and through 5-6 courses I was never disappointed. Just fresh, comforting, high quality food that was clearly made with care. If you're in Okayama, please pay Sushi Kame a visit. And if you can, bring a small turtle ornament.
