Alto is a labour of love.
Like many other things in Onomichi (such as the town itself) you come across it along the way, and should you decide to linger awhile, you reward yourself with time well-spent.
The place consists of things carefully considered, carefully placed. Little touches of art fill the space, everything hand made; touches by the owner, a wonderfully gentle man with an appreciation and talent for delicious and food that satisfies the stomach, heart and soul.
The Teishouku set meal consists of seasonal accruments, meat, vegetables and rice from local sources. Drinks and desserts are the same, everything made in-house.
There are books and art lightly scattered throughout, but just being in and observing the space allows time to treacle by. You're glad you came, hungry when the food arrives, surprised by the variety, healed by the taste, and satisfied when you're done.
