Cafe Malacca — Restaurant in Osaka

I love and highly recommend this unique, cozy cafe because of its relaxing, retro Perranikan-inspired atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious Malaysian food. The laksa soup curry rice is amazing, and my new favorite, with the chicken pho a close second. There’s a nice variety of coffees and teas too, and for people like me that like both, order a Yuanyang tea, a popular choice in Malaysia that combines the two. The pandan leaf pancakes and blueberry pie are great choices when you feel like something sweet. I keep coming back to this gem of a cafe in the wonderfully old style Nakazakicho area off the beaten path, but only a short walk from Umeda or a few blocks from Nakazakicho or Tenjinbashisuji-rokuchome stations. i had come by around 2pm to see if they were open, however, there was a note outside saying lunch was sold out, which is understandable.

there was also a sign outside saying “membership only”, which i want to respect but how can one become a member in that case?

i went around the area to kill some time and returned around 8pm to try again, but they would not serve me - neither a party of two nor party of one.

it’s a shame because hainanese chicken rice is my favourite dish in the whole world as someone of malaysian descent. i was very excited to try osaka style hainanese chicken rice, and was feeling homesick wanting to eat this dish.

why have your establishment listed on google if there’s such restrictions? the experience in general...

Had to come twice before I could review the place to make sure quality was consistent. This is my breakfast joint close to home for those lazier days.

Eggs Benedict will give you a discount on a drink (save 200円), so Eggs Benedict and an iced coffee is under 1,500円. It's not exactly cheap (for Japan), but it's reasonable and very, very yummy. Everything is made fresh to order.

It's a very laid back atmosphere inside, and a bit short on the headroom upstairs. Once seated, though, it's so very comfortable that I often study here.

WiFi is very fast, and completely open (no password or sign in page), and after you order and pay, you can just wait in your seat, eat, and hang out. Also, they'll give you a fortune cookie...
