– A Seafood Lover’s Paradise in Hokkaido
Located in Sapporo’s Central Wholesale Market area, 北のグルメ亭 (Kita no Gurume Tei) is more than just a seafood restaurant—it’s a full-on culinary experience that combines a bustling market atmosphere with fresh, expertly prepared Hokkaido seafood. Whether you're here for breakfast, lunch, or a mid-morning feast, this spot delivers on quality, variety, and local flavor.
The adjacent seafood market is a sensory delight. Tanks of live crab, trays of glistening uni, scallops, ikura, and thick cuts of sashimi-grade fish line the counters. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, often offering samples or explaining the origins of their catch. It’s a great place to pick up souvenirs like vacuum-packed seafood, dried scallops, or even fresh crab to ship home.

Each bite was a reminder of Hokkaido’s reputation for pristine waters and top-tier seafood. The rice was warm and slightly vinegared, providing a perfect base for the toppings.
Service is efficient, and the space is clean and welcoming. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or just curious about local specialties, 北のグルメ亭 offers a satisfying, authentic taste of Hokkaido’s...

On our last day in Hokkaido, we hit up this legendary seafood spot that’s been around for 75 years. Stepping inside felt like traveling back in time—old-school wooden decor, vintage vibes, the whole deal. We went straight for their famous baby king crab, and man, it did NOT disappoint.
When they brought it out, the shell was this gorgeous bright red, and the meat? Pure, snowy white—so fresh it practically jumped off the plate. The texture was insane—firm, sweet, and ridiculously juicy. A quick dip in their house-made kelp soy sauce took it to another level. No fancy tricks here, just perfect seafood done right.
By the time we left, we were already planning our next trip back. If you’re in Sapporo, this place is a must. Trust me, your taste buds...

They serve all kinds of fresh sashimi available from Otoro, Chutoro, Sake, lean (steak) Sake, ikura, mentaiko, squid, king crab (frozen & grilled), fresh king crab (live, male female), much much more.
Price is noticeably affordable than the one is downtown, we spent around 13,500JPY for half body grilled crab weighed at around 1.4KG. Very good ! Live crab would cost you around 28-30,000JPY weighing just around 2.8-3.0KG. Personally loved Chutoro better than Otoro but these are my personal preference. Also order their Lemon sour (highball) very nice to accompany fresh seafood such as this....
