i stumbled upon this shop near my airbnb and my whole experience there was amazing. i went there twice! the owner is super friendly and helpful with how to make and choose correct type of tea-they have sooooo much variety for you to choose from. the place is a family-run business for 3 generations, they really do know their stuff. many locals dropped by when i was there and that's always a good sign. the matcha latte was the best i've ever tried in my entire life as a matcha fan. it was creamy and sweet, i got the powder and tried to make it myself, but unfortunately i couldn't match what was offered in the shop. their homemade matcha ice cream and the cone, too, were spectacular. again, the best i've ever tried and i'm usually very picky. the price of everything too was sooo worth it-cheaper than what i'd have to pay for matcha in my country, just wow (500 jpy for the latte and 600 jpy for the ice cream). hojicha tea was also served alongside matcha latte and matcha ice cream and that was also amazing. i will 10000% come back to this awesome place whenever i visit sapporo again.
note: the shop closes on public holidays, so check...

A long established Japanese tea shop in Sapporo, where you can enjoy Japanese tea and original sweets.
Founded in 1933, Gyokusuien is a Japanese tea shop located close to Sapporo’s Nijo Market. There is an eat-in space where you can enjoy quality Japanese teas from all over the country and original sweets served with ice cream made with mature matcha tea.

Green tea is rich in vitamins and also has fatigue-relieving effects, so there are many regular customers from the neighboring office district. You may also see foreign tourists enjoying sampling the teas and enthusiastically listening to explanations provided by a Japanese tea instructor.
The Japanese tea and sweets can also be taken out, and there is also a popular service whereby if you bring a flask with you (350 to 500ml), they will fill it with freshly made Japanese...

Incredible matcha latte. I chatted a little with the shop owner. He told me that each morning he would blend various types of uji matcha powder himself according to the weather that day. I came on the coldest days of the year and it tasted amazing. I brew matcha myself and I can guarantee there’s no way I can ever replicate this flavour.
Both the male and female shop owners were kind and attentive. The male owner is superb at brewing and also did some latte arts. I almost shed tears at first sip. It’s that good.
Definitely would come back if I ever traveled to Sapporo again. Highly recommended for every matcha lovers and even the travelers seeking some genmaicha/sencha/matcha to warm your guts...
