Umami Tasuke — Restaurant in Sendai

They serve sets of delicious beef tongue, rich oxtail soup and good rice at a very reasonable price of 1800 JPY ~ 13 euros at the current rate! The only variety you need to have in mind is the number of pieces you want! Super quick, they go on and come straight off of the char grill within mere minutes of your order! Highly recommend for anyone in Sendai, even if you would deem yourself a little squeemish with cuts of meat I believe you will wish you had ordered just a piece more if only to avoid the end...

THE legendary gyutan in Japan. It is a must try if you ever visit Sendai. The restaurant is around 15 minutes from Sendai JR station. You could also take the subway to get here. The restaurant is quite small, so expect a queue when you go during lunch/dinner time. They also have english menu.

For the gyutan itself, it was extraordinary. The gyutan was juicy but still have the smoky flavor from the grill. I ordered the 5 piece gyutan set for ¥2000. The oxtail soup from the set was...

平日17時半頃、カウンター利用。 牛タン焼き単品(6枚切り)＋瓶ビールを注文。

総じて、可もなく不可もなく。 肝心の牛タンは国産ではないだろうが、炭火焼きは当然のことながら美味しい。

サービスは最悪。 回転率を最も重視しているようで、店員はニコリともせず機械のよう。 入ると、席に座る前から「定食をおすすめしています」と案内され、飲み物よりも先に牛タンを注文しろと言われた。 同じような高圧的な態度なので、1人で来られた女性は萎縮しているように見受けられた。

連れは10年ぶりの来店で、久しぶりに呑みながら牛タンを味わいたかったにも関わらず、急かされているようで終始不快だった。

炭火焼きの牛タンは美味しいのに、なんだか悲しい。 すぐ近くに本店があるので、店員に違いを聞いてみたところ、わからないとのこと。 それで良いのか。

定食がメインであろうランチの時間帯であれば効率を求めるのも理解できるが、ホスピタリティは皆無、老舗なのにこのレベルとは残念極まりない。

I visited around 5:30 PM on a weekday and sat at the counter, ordering grilled beef tongue (6 slices) and a bottle of beer.

The beef tongue was good, grilled over charcoal, though it’s probably not domestic. However, the service was poor. The staff seemed focused solely on efficiency, acting mechanically without any warmth. I was told to order the beef tongue before drinks and pressured into choosing quickly. It was uncomfortable, especially for a woman dining alone who appeared to shrink from the forceful tone.

My companion, visiting after 10 years, was also put off by the rushed atmosphere. It’s a shame because the beef tongue was tasty, but the overall experience was disappointing. When I asked the staff about differences with the main store, they didn’t know.
