I knew I came to the right place when I saw the queue at this restaurant. As a matter of fact, when in Sendai, one needs to try out their beef tongue and I was looking for one highly rated one on google map and found this place. Apparently, one can make a reservation but since we are tourists, we try walking in. But no chance, we have to queue. We waited close to 30-40 minutes before we were given a table. But as we sat there waiting, the crowd kept coming in and that was a sure sign that this place was good. We had the beef tongue and the kids had the beef tongue curry. They do offer set meal and larger portion of the famous beef tongue. Amazing texture and they don’t taste gamey at all. It was like a good piece of beef, with my chewiness to it, but in a good way. The charred part gave it a Smokey flavor and it was well marinated. No wonder the queue was so long. Prices were very reasonable as well. Just make sure that you reserve your seats if you are coming.

We waited an hour and a half to get in the restaurant. If you're lining up upstairs it's about that wait time. The food was very good but I will not wait that time again for that. We felt a little rushed too since there was such a huge line. Servers didn't really soeak english either. And that's okay. Sendai isn't a big tourist place. But at one point even with google translate we couldn't understand what the server was asking of us. We eventually found out that we had to order an appetizer with every meal. So you can order a meal, but you need to buy an appetizer as well. We had to remove our shoes and sit on tatami mats so that was nice.

Absolutely incredible gyutan (beef tongue) - some of the most flavoursome meat you'll ever experience. Given Sendai is renowned for the dish, a visit to Kaku is essential for anyone staying in the area. The set meals are very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and focus on enhancing the flavour of their grilled gyutan. Meat is tender, juicy, and will make you want to savour every single bite. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, evenings are busy and bustling often with a line, so be prepared to wait. But it's worth every single minute!

There is generally a line here, so prepare to wait if you intend to come here. I agree with other reviewers that it is a bit overrated. Yes, the beef tongue is generally thicker, and cooked nicer than others. But I am not sure it justifies the additional cost over others. Most of the extras (e.g miso flavoured condiment) here are optional extras rather than part of the set, and there is a sit down fee as well which is absent from most other gyu-tan restaurants. There is also a time limit as well, all of which takes away the experience a little.

We arrived around 6pm and had only 2 groups of people before us and were seated after less than 15 minutes wait. The tomato salad was very refreshing with a tangy dressing that tasted like it had some grated fruit in it. The beef tongue was grilled to perfect and thicc yet tender and flavourful. The rice had barley added for a slight bite. The braised beef was so rich and deep in flavour. Service was very attentive and prompt. Very highly recommended. When we leave around 6.45pm, there was 30 pax in the queue.

If there's a MUST of the delicious food list. This restaurant is the must of my life. Although they don't speak English they will share the English menu with you, and I confirmed the price and quality are the same between the Japanese and English menus. I visited here very randomly around 9 pm, still crowded and you could even smell the smoky nice beef smells when you got downstairs. Please visit here if you visit Sendai, or even visit Sendai again just for the delicious foods.
