We stayed at Bon's Home for 2 nights. It is a homestay in the small town of Utoro. We had GREAT difficulties trying to locate it because it looked like a normal townhouse and the signage was in Japanese! But we got some help from the visitor's center... It is located right in the small town, very near to the port (10-15minutes walking) and there are a few restaurants and convenience stores, all within walking distance. It is also a great base for Shiretoko NP, with the Five Lakes about 40 mins drive away. ||||The guesthouse is really clean and basic. The rooms are shared / hostel-style, with futons. It can get a little cramped because there are 4 of us in one room. There is a small common area with TV, books, games, a kitchen sink and fridge that we are free to use. Toilet and bathroom are clean, but towels and toiletries are not provided. They also have discount coupons for the nearby onsen.||||The only thing I didn't really like about this place is that there are fixed timings for the meals (8am -I think- for breakfast and 5pm for dinner). This restricts our movement a lot especially because we were intending to spend the whole day at the National Park. Also, although the owner was very nice and polite, I felt like she was rather "strict" on us for the meal timings. That said, the meals were very hearty and delicious. Definitely...

Read more😊: It was in a very good location for the bus and the cafe opposite was excellent.
The lady of the house was absolutely lovely.

I had to ring the bell (it says they will not answer and you have to stay out until they open the next day). Thankfully the man answered, but was very grumpy and pointed at the sign on the back of the door and stropped off.
I could not have my bags with me so I had to rummage through them at the entrance / main stairwell whenever I needed to get something.
There is a charge for storing your bags if you arrive early.
The bed consisted of a thin hard mattress on the floor which was not comfy but did ensure I got out early 🤣
The bath can only be used between certain hours and not in the morning.
Rooms were up to...
