外浦海岸ベーカリーDOUG — Restaurant in Shimoda

Tiny micro bakery near the beach. We went mid morning on a rainy day and they were already almost sold out! Everything we got (~6 items) was amazing and would have liked to have tried more items if they were available.

As someone who appreciates both Asian and European styles of bread. Doug seems to have been able to find a sweet in between spot. Whilst crusty on the outside, the inside of the loaves were pillowy. The muffin/scones was also crumbly and rich whilst not being too sweet.

Awesome bakery. Great selection of incredible looking pastries and bread loaves. I’ve tried the Rye Loaf and the Chocolate Scones. Both were amazing. Easy to forget you’re in Japan when you’re in there, the pastries have the quality and look of an artisan place in Europe. Chill music plays in the background whilst you browse.

All I would recommend is arriving before it opens to get a spot in the queue of people waiting for the pastries. Definitely...

Small bakery located in this quiet town, operating at 7am when most shops are still closed.

‘Doug’ (named after his dog) produces top quality savory, sweet, and general bread goods.

Personally, living in Tokyo and just coming back from Europe, I found that this bakery palate-d very high in my books in terms of quality of bread and baked goods.

Wish they had hot coffee available, but that’s just me being needy.
