Ballade Coffee Shop — Restaurant in Tokyo

This place has a warm and comforting atmosphere which is definitely perfect for people who just want to have a slow and relaxing time. It’s run by an elderly couple and they seem very accommodating. From the entrance, there is a little garden that makes you feel like you are escaping from the hectic city and going to the countryside. The inside is just as beautiful as well. Everything is neat and organized. You also have to take off your shoes and put on the slippers that they provide by the entrance.

As for the coffee and food, 10/10!!! I had toast, iced coffee, and egg sandwich. The coffee is tasty and they serve it with syrup and milk if you don’t like your coffee black. The toast is perfectly done and served with strawberry jam. The outside is crisp and the inside is soft.

The toast was served with a warm bowl of sweet corn soup which I definitely loved. I was also given a small scoop of vanilla ice cream although I’m not sure if it was a freebie or if it came with the toast or coffee. Either way, I really enjoyed this place. ばらーど (Ballade) was re-open with this name from 1966 at Sotokanda. Then move to Ueno, Kyobashi, until now cafe is located at nakano by renovated from old Japanese style house. I like this place. Relaxing place. Feel like you travel back to Showa era of Japan. Coffee was good. They carefully select the coffee bean which origin from Colombia, Mocha, Brazil, and Guatemala. Toasted Vegetable Sandwich also very good.

Inside the cafe is non-smoking area. You can smoke if you sit outside the cafe.

京橋からここ、中野へ。

東京・京橋で長きにわたり営業されていた「喫茶ばらーど」さんが7年ほど前、中野にお引っ越しをされてきました。京橋時代は近隣のダンナ衆が集まる昭和な雰囲気いっぱいの良き喫茶店でした。当時の店内は常連さんばかりで、そこにキッチンに入ったままのご主人とフロアを担当されるクールな奥様のペアが織りなす緊張感が加わり、新参者の私は背筋を伸ばして静かにサンドイッチを頂いた思い出があります。その京橋は地域の開発にともない閉店。ショックだったのですが、なんと2015年に中野のご自宅を美しく改装して新規スタートをされました。

中野に行く際にはできるだけ立ち寄っています。ご主人のお顔が見られて優しい人であること、奥様のクールさも本当は真面目さとか人見知り？ゆえのものなのかなとか分かってきて、そんなおふたりのほうもご自宅をお店にされていることで気持ちが和らいでおられている様子で、京橋の時とはうって変わって（店内は凛と静かながら）私の印象としてはだいぶ暖かな雰囲気です。 コーヒーと紅茶、お食事はサンドイッチやホットドッグ。毎回、ばらーどさんのタマゴのサンドイッチが楽しみです。

それとご自宅改装のお店なのにトイレと洗面所周りの設備や収まりが素晴らしく、ここにおふたりのプロ意識の高さと真面目さを垣間見る思いです。
