Though Brew Dog has an awesome selection of beers, I’m concerned with the level of attention they give to their customers’ allergies.

My husband and I visited Brew Dog a few nights ago for dinner. We had planned to just order the chicken wings and fries but saw their nacho plate on the menu that looked very good. We’re usually highly cautious about ordering nachos because many places tend to include some sort of avocado product, which my husband is incredibly allergic to. When the waiter came over I asked if avocado is on the nachos and if we could have this removed completely because of his allergy. He assured us he could and said he’d put the chopped avocado in a cup on the side, not touching.

When the food arrived he put everything on the table, including the avocado in a cup, which looked seasoned with ground beef and tomato, though we thought nothing of it. After beginning to eat from the nacho plate, I noticed an avocado inside of the dish, and then some under the top layer of chips in the middle. My husband had already eaten a chip, which was thankfully not touched by the avocado.

Brew Dog had clearly put avocado into the nacho dish (all over) and then removed it by hand to place it in the side dish. If my husband would have kept eating without realizing it as soon as we did, he would have gone into anaphylactic shock and would have needed immediate medical attention.

A mistake is a mistake, and if it was simply a preference this wouldn’t have been a big deal. But to remove avocado from food that it has already touched after the customers’ have let you know in English and Japanese of the allergy is unacceptable.
