FRIJOLES is my favorite Mexican (burrito) place in Tokyo. Well, actually, there aren't too many Mexican restaurants in Tokyo and if you are talking about really good ones, there only seems to be a few.
This place is rather casual, serving quality burritos/tacos which are hard to get here in Tokyo. I used to grab a burrito at Chipotle at least a couple of times a week and really liked it there when I was in Florida. And it was only $6.50 including free-refill drink! I guess I shouldn't simply compare this place to Chipotle, but I'd say FRIJOLES' burritos are not yet as good as Chipotle's but the price is double.
The quality is fairly good. It's just a feeling that bothers me a bit - I pay more than I should for what I get. But don't get me wrong, I like this place. And it's actually "Tokyo price" and if you think about how expensive the rent of this place can be, their pricing makes sense. Overall, I still recommend checking it out and you'll see a bunch of foreigners...
Read moreFood is just ok, there are way better burritos and tacos in Tokyo. But their service is so bad - the worst I’ve ever experienced in my 34 years in Japan. The servers look and act utterly miserable and annoyed, and it wasn’t even at the lunch or dinner rush. I went at 3:30 pm on a weekday and there was only one customer there.
I should’ve learned my lesson the first time - the first time I bought from this store was at their Tokyo Midtown branch. The servers were so impatient and rude which surprised me because it was so atypical. I emailed the company to tell them about their service but I didn’t get a reply.
(I am fluent in Japanese and I ordered in Japanese so there was no language barrier for them to be annoyed at.)
Looking at the negative reviews here - it seems the owner only replies to positive reviews - which to me is the mark of an unprofessional...
Read moreThis is the best and only frijoles I will go to from now on. They are kind, understanding and it’s Chipotle style where you pick and add what you’d like. The Shibuya one has really gone down in quality in food and service. Last time I went to Shibuya I ordered the chicken bowl and the photo has guacamole pictured but they told me it’s not included. On top of that, I ordered extra sour cream and cheese and they didn’t give it to me but the person in front argued with me saying it was extra but when the chef in the back looked he confirmed that it was not extra. It wouldn’t have been an issue if I hadn’t paid for it. Anyways, I will take the extra trains to the Frijoles in Azabu-juban! It’s much better than the...
