This rock bar is a hidden gem in Tokyo's Shinjuku area. When you ascend an elevator to the fourth floor and open a nondescript door you've arrived at a tiny shrine to classic rock. The walls are covered with vinyl covers, American and Japanese guitar riffs float out of the speakers, and a bevy of instruments sit ready to be played. The space is intimate and the owners are friendly, happy to chat about their city and their passion.

Read moreKind of glad we didn't find this place until our last night in Tokyo, because we probably wouldn't have gone anywhere else. It is a fantastic spot. The space and music create the atmosphere, but it's the owners who create the magical vibe. Their way of connecting to each and every person that comes through the door somehow fosters a sense of community and fast friendship among the guests. It helps that the space itself is intimate - and the Okinawan rice liquor didn't hurt either - but we had by far the best bar-talks of our entire time in Japan. Worth the work to find it....
