If you’re in the Ikebukuro area and want to try a Japanese kaiseki style meal, at a very reasonable price, go to Hanamusashi. I had the grilled fish course - 3 kinds of fish - while my wife had the vegetables with grilled chicken course. Our meals started with a nice array of appetizers and a vegetable dish that comes with a small tumbler of warm soup base. Mix and eat the vegetable first then add the soup base to finish it as a soup dish. The fish was nice & fresh and grilled to perfection. Served with fresh grated daikon. The vegetables were nicely grilled and the chicken was done just right, too. The warm dessert was a muffin sized hotcake, very fluffy, served with maple syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you are still a bit hungry, get a few more small desserts from the dessert buffet; typical Japanese style desserts that looked pretty good, but we were full. Nice ambience and good service (a little more attention to empty water glasses would be good, though). They have a very adequate drinks selection including a number of regional sakes.
