A Taste of Nostalgia at Italian Dining DoNA – Shinonome Gem

Visited in April 2025 during a business trip to Tokyo, I made a special detour to Shinonome just to revisit this beloved restaurant. Italian Dining DoNA holds a special place in my heart—it was part of my everyday life when I lived in the area. I'm beyond happy to see that it’s still around, and even more thrilled that the taste hasn't changed a bit. Still as delicious as ever.

I ordered my all-time favorite (and my family's, too): エビとアスパラの明太子クリーム (Prawn & Asparagus with Mentaiko Cream Spaghetti). This dish is a masterpiece of balance and flavor: The pasta was perfectly al dente. The mentaiko cream was rich but not heavy—harmoniously blended, where the umami of the mentaiko melts into the cream. It doesn’t feel like two separate sauces, but one unified flavor experience. The prawns were wonderfully fresh and plump, and the asparagus added a crisp texture.

What elevates the dish even more? A dash of their house chili oil. It gives a gentle kick and a warm garlic aroma that deepens the flavor beautifully.

The staff were welcoming, if a bit reserved at first. But once I spoke in Japanese, they warmed up immediately and made me feel right at home.

We visited your restaurant for the first time today, a place we have long wished to see. We ordered a salad, two types of pasta, and a pizza. The ordering system utilized a QR code, but the in-store internet connectivity was unfortunately poor. The order was interrupted mid-process, forcing us to restart the entire sequence from the beginning. The ordering interface was set up to encourage topping additions. This structure was a slight disappointment, as it could easily lead to the misconception that the dishes lacked toppings entirely if none were specifically ordered.
