Stopped by Kasugatei Akihabara for a bowl ramen. The thick, chewy noodles had a great texture and held the rich, creamy sauce really well. The slices of chashu pork were flavorful, tender, and generously portioned. The added bamboo shoots and crunchy vegetables provided a nice variety of textures to keep each bite interesting.
However, while the components were all solid, I felt like the overall flavor could have used just a bit more punch, perhaps a sharper vinegar kick, more garlic, or a stronger sauce to really tie everything together, whatever that component may be. Read moreHappenchanced upon this place around the corner, while waiting in a crazy long line for some ramen hot spot in Akihabara. I wouldnt call it a ramen place because they serve only oil noodles (?) and their specialty was chicken and pork oil noodles; which is really more of a dry noodle compared to ramen. I would suggest venturing off their no 1 recommendation of the chicken/pork oil noodles (which was delicious ofc but literally only had 1 thin slice of pork) and ordering their garlic oil noodles - it was super fragrant and extremely savory. It was also less pricey than typical ramen places and offers upsizing. Noodles were springy, and bamboo shoots were a lovely touch. Would recommend putting the order machine outside or away from...
Read moreGreat Aburamen. The restaurant is not very spacious but the food are quite delicious. Aburamen roughly translate to oil ramen, which unlike regular ramen which has soup base, or tsukeman, which has the plain ramen on the side with a bowl of condensed dipping ramen sauce/broth; Aburamen does not have much soup, it mixes ramen with various flavored oil to keep them from sticking together, and like regular ramen, has choices of toppings. The ramen are curly and much thicker, cooked al dante si there is a nice bite into it. Full of flavor, great comfort food for cold...
