Me and my family were just looking for a quick bite after spending a few hours in Mandarake Complex Akihabara when my ramen craving suddenly kicked in. Since my wife and children were also down for a ramen experience, I searched Google Maps for best ramen restaurants near me. Suprisingly, whenever I refresh my search (since we're in the move that time), this an unassuming place always takes first. With just 2 mins of walk from our location, we found Kyushu Jangara Akihabara.
Yes, this place is humble and unassuming since it is surrounded by modern buildings and the name sign screams anime because of the anime colors used therein, but the food here is what makes it standout. I ordered the 3-C from their English language Menu the prices of which is similar to their Nippon Menu. So the gossip is not true insofar this restaurant is concerned. The meat was so tender that it melts in your mouth while the tonkatsu broth that is smothered by garlic pieces with garlic oil, exudes a nice aroma that is very tasteful and flavorful. One full serving is enough to last you for the day.
The ambience reminisce the old counterstyle ramen house but that is not the reason why you are there. It's all about their ramen and the food they offer. And their place surely tells you that they have been in this game for the longest time. You can say old, but very much thriving. When we entered the establishment, it was empty. After the staff took our orders, place is now full.
The Coke bottle however gave me that childhood experience - when I enjoy gulping Coke soda in its original bottle. Now...
Read moreThey have menus in multiple languages. I think it was English, Chinese, Korean, Thai. Saw many tourists here, as well as locals. This place is quite small and there was a line. It's totally worth the wait!! I got the creamy ramen (2A) and I enjoyed it to the last bit! Their ramen noodles is on the thin side. I really loved their soup base. It was flavorful even mine was not spicy. I was the only one in the store who ordered the creamy ramen, because I saw only my bowl was in white. Other people mostly got the red or blue bowl. I think the red bowl might be the spicy ramen.
They have a vegan option, which is extremely rare for a ramen place! When I was there, I heard another customer ordering the vegan ramen. I'm sure vegans would appreciate it. Thank you for keeping vegans in your mind.
I recommend this place but please expect a wait. The shop doesn't have many seats and it gets cramped inside. It's not difficult to find, Google map is accurate. They have a sign in Japanese as shown in my picture. When you get there, just get in line. The staff speaks English. There are many many restaurants in Akihabara but I would make...
Read moreWow this place really exceeded our expectations. We came here on a Thursday evening and only had to wait 15-20 minutes. They have a menu in English and a person will take your order before you are seated so the food comes faster. We settled on the vegan ramen and the 4G (I think). It was the spicy tonkatsu one with an egg.
Both were very good. The vegan ramen noodles were delicious which was a positive surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect but they had an excellent texture. I also found the broth to be very flavorful and delicious. It wasn't heavy at all but still quite filling. I wasn't a fan of the meat alternative that they had for pork though - I would have been happy without it - or to add an egg (if you're not strictly vegan).
The spicy tonkatsu ramen was quite rich and it had a pretty strong spice. It was creamy and omg that egg was absolutely amazing. I could have eaten many of those eggs. The pork was melt in your mouth yummy and a little on the fatty side.
The place is so sweet and I'm so glad...
