I love the way Tokyo is full of restaurants that specialize in just one thing. This is a place to experience it without too much spectacle and pomp.
When you get to the end of the main Nakameguro business district, a tiny bit outside the hustle and bustle, you'll find Lamb Chan. It's a tiny little place, full of ambiance and good vibes. There are dried plants dangling from the ceiling, the lighting is perfect, and the music is hip (I kept asking my phone to identify what was playing).
BEST of all: they specialize in Lamb.
I sat at the counter and talked to the chef while I ate. He was super friendly and welcoming. Patient with my terrible attempts to speak Japanese. First, I ate the skewers sample plate. Five different types: lamb/mutton/meatball/heart/tripe.
I'll eat pretty much anything, but I'm not usually a fan of heart and tripe. Still, I tried it, and I'm glad I did. Both were super tender and super flavorful. I'm a huge fan of lamb, love the grassy & gamey flavor, and each skewer showcased that lamb-ness in its own unique way. I've been thinking about how delicious the lamb heart was for days. It melted in my mouth, almost like liver, but with more bite. I'll definitely order it again. The tripe had none of the chewiness that I expected, it was soft and succulent.
I was still hungry after the skewers, so I asked the chef for a recommendation. おすすめ. He gave me a plate of seared lamb on a bed of cabbage and bean sprouts, scallions sprinkled on top. It was absolutely delicious in a whole different way. Now, I want to try the other things on the menu.
If you're a lamb lover, go now. Don't wait. Go with friends so you can taste more of what they can do with lamb. Lamb is a great value in Japan, you can't find it everywhere, but when you do it, it tends to be reasonably priced and...
Read moreI love Lamb Chan! Tucked away in a nice backstreet of Nakameguro this place really strikes a cozy vibe as soon as you pass it. Inside is a high ceiling but narrow restaurant seating, I got to sit by the counter and had a nice chat with the very friendly chef.
The interior is very cool and hipstery, with a projection of a random old film screening on the wall opposite the counter.
Food was amazing. They specialize in lamb (imported from Australia) and I opted for the super affordable tasting course. Nice variation of minced and cut lamb with a cheesecake made of sheep’s cheese to finish it off. The lamb meatball was especially yummy.

Read moreWe discovered Lamb Chan by accident, and we absolutely struck gold ! Most dishes makes use of lamb meat or sheep cheese in a creative and tempting way. Counter seats are the best way to observe how the gastronomic miracles are performed in the tiny open kitchen . Everything is amazing, succulent lamb chops, salads, tender grilled vegetables, vegetable fritters (lightly breaded and sprinkled with cheese) , juicy skewers, etc ,etc ..The french fries are irristable. Lamb bolognese (if they have it) is superb and can be shared. The lamb gyoza topped with a mound of cilantro is wonderful. Great wines, and a drop dead delicious feta cheese cake . I...
