Today we visited Longrain in Ebisu! The night view of Tokyo from Ebisu is perfect for a date!A compact introduction to a restaurant where you can enjoy fine Thai cuisine and more!
A word of warning... A high-end Thai restaurant perfect for a date with a panoramic view of the Tokyo nightscape.
Access from Ebisu Station Located a 5-minute walk from Ebisu Station. Take the private elevator of Yebisu Garden Place Tower to the 39th floor. The view from the upper floors is also a must-see.The "Longrain" logo is a landmark.
Seats Total 120 seats. There are three types of seating: bar counter, table, and window seats with a night view. The night view can be seen from every seat, but we recommend the seats by the window. The location in Ebisu offers a panoramic view of Tokyo's Shibuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, and the nightscape.
Interior When you arrive at the restaurant, you will see the night view of Tokyo all over the window! I have been to many restaurants, but only Ebisu offers a night view from Shibuya to Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge. The atmosphere is very stylish and suitable for a date. The wine pairing with the course meal in the glittering atmosphere is a very happy moment.

[Ask for this one!Menu] The Thai rice salad called Khao Yum in the course menu was very delicious. The blue jasmine rice is also quite impressive! Lemongrass, fresh herbs, crunchy and colorful raw vegetables, citrus fruits, dried shrimp, and chili are served with jasmine rice. When mixed together, it combines sour and spicy flavors, as well as the texture and aroma of each ingredient. The mackerel was also deliciously seasoned.
Price The course price is 12,000 yen.The night view is beautiful and the price is very reasonable for a full course Thai meal with wine pairing. I highly recommend this dish for an...
Read moreThis is a tasty, westernized Thai restaurant with a good atmosphere and a great view of the city, but it's being brought down by service that left me unsatisfied. For example, we reserved online a table listed as '[Weekend Limited LUNCH] ★Window Seat★ '--the 'window seat' would imply a table next to the window, but what we got was a table in the hall section with one table next to us closer to even a view of the window. The website said you needed to order a 'window seat course' to get a window seat, but then why does it advertise that course I booked as '★Window Seat★ ' (in Japanese too)?
This restaurant doesn't seem to be overly interested in taking care of the waiting customers outside, even though the servers don't look overly busy. Three couples lined up before the manager bothered to come by.
I found this manager bureaucratic at best, and in some ways on the rude side. Some sort of mistake had caused me to fail to reserve a private room online, so I went to the restaurant a bit early to ask if it's possible to change the reservation to the private room. The manager said, in effect, the private room has a separate course that's more expensive (no problem), but the course needs to be prepared beforehand so it can't be booked on the same day (OK, understood), and even if I come to the restaurant directly to request this they can't do anything (...OK, but did the guy need to say this, as this was clear already?), and by the way your reservation is from 1:30 p.m. so we can't serve you yet--it was about 1 p.m. (I went to the restaurant early to ask if the booking could be changed, and wasn't trying to get in early--though the empty tables left me wondering if it would've been THAT difficult...). I found the manager to have the increasingly common problem among restaurant staff these days that they seem more interested in complying with restaurant rules rather than ensuring that customers are enjoying their meal.
I've been to Longrain a few times in the past and enjoyed it those times, but the experience this time made me somewhat reluctant to visit in the future. I may be making a judgement based on the generally high standards of restaurant service in Japan, but I'm in Japan and have come to expect prompt and friendly service, which...

Food: Edible though wasn't the best. Lacking in authenticity and flavour. We opted for the 5500/pax course menu. Papaya salad was sold out (at 8pm) so they substituted it with apple.. hmm? Pork was really good though. Greens were not that impressive as it was lacking in flavour. They did not serve us rice when the pork and greens came out. The curry took forever to arrive. We basically waited for a while until a tiny portion of curry with 5 beef cubes arrived. Jasmine rice was definitely the highlight of the evening, no doubt! Dessert was way too sweet.
Drinks: For the grand opening free drink I wanted something, which I forgot, but it was already sold out. Then I picked Jungle Gin and I couldn't even taste the gin. My mate ordered Ping Pong and it was super duper sweet as if the bartender just poured a whole canned of lychee juice inside. I asked for an Australian Pinot Noir and it was sold out too. Wine selection by the glass was very minimal. Wine took forever to come. Not joking. Forever to come! When my mate's wine glass was empty, the waitress just took the glass without even asking if he wanted some more.
Service: Pros and cons. One of the male managers (dressed in a suit) was busy talking to 2 female customers and also drank on the job? He brought like a few glasses for the women to try yet he also drank them. In the end he joined them for dinner (perhaps he finished?). Sam the owner was there, however he did not bother saying hi and checking on everyone and instead, just sat and hung out with his inner circle. Not that it was bad or anything... but grand opening? Really Sam? Other than that, the female staff in our section was pretty apologetic and attentive. Kudos to her.
Ambiance: Really nice and can't take stress enough on how spectacular...
