Red Rock Takadanobaba — Restaurant in Tokyo

You know that one place that everyone says is really good, and then you slowly build up hype until the very moment you decide to try the darn place yourself?

Well, here I am about 1200 yen poorer, and I have to say the beef was great, but other the rest was a little disappointing.

Depending on the time you head there, you may be met with a long line, or nothing at all. Ordering is pretty straight-forward with a ticket machine, and afterwards you wait for one of their counter seats.

Surprisingly, they house a some-what decent bar, in the case you wanted to get buzzed with your friends after some donburi (I know, a weird combo), but options are options. After seating myself and waiting 10-15 minutes, my bowl arrived and I was met with slices of beef cooked rare. Upon finishing the the delicious slices of beef, I played with the forgettable remaining rice with some type of sweet and sour sauce a really interesting mixture, which was utterly overshadowed by the slices of beef that came immediately before it.

While a part of the meal was magnificent (that beef), I begrudgingly finished the rice for the latter portion of the bowl, a reminder of the similarly disparaging walk home.

All-in-all, not bad for a tourist looking for something outside of the Yoshinoya, Matsuya, and Sukiya chain-stores, but there are better donburi restaurants out there that offer a more satisfying...

Highly recommend! Located on a quiet street along the canal near takadanobaba eki, this restaurant has a line up every day during lunch! We waited 15-20 minutes on a Thursday morning at 11:30am. Before you enter, you'll need order & pay via a vending machine so look at the menu while you're in line. The prime rib bowl is amazing - i don't eat meat often and I ate the entire bowl! It is seared on the edges so mainly very rare, and lightly seasoned with sauce. A dollop of yogourt mix is also included...

Can’t taste the “Wagyu” here. Pick this because it’s next or my airbnb and was going to enjoy some famous Wagyu. But this one is at best ok. We order couple to take out. The roasted beef rice is ok. But no taste at all. The expensive Wagyu steak box is bad. The cut is tough and not grill well. Best would be the curry dish. Not the traditional Japanese sweet curry. But more south Asian style spicy curry. Over all kind of disappointed. Don’t come here...
