We got the lunch set on a weekday. The curries were bland, and we felt like they were more like baby food than authentic curry. Maybe they're formulated for Japanese tastes, sweet without much spice... They didn't ask for a spice level, but maybe if I told them to make my food "spicy" it would have been better.
The thing that saves this place is the tandoori chicken -- it was cooked fresh for our order, and was hot and juicy and flavorful. I probably won't be back for curry, but if I was here again, I would definitely order that chicken.
The waitress we had spoke very good English, which wasn't necessary for us but I always think it's impressive when I meet very good English speakers here. It might be useful for other foreigners with less Japanese experience.
I see a ton of great reviews on here from people with a completely opposite experience... I'm a bit confused by that, so either 20+ reviewers have never had good Indian food (which seems unlikely), or else we just went on a bad day. Maybe their usual chef had the day off? I'll have to give it another try for the buffet...
Read moreRuchira is a real authentic Indian restaurant just next to Higashi-Kurume Station in Tokyo.
This restaurant was highly recommended by a good friend, so we came here for dinner after attending a classical concert nearby.
We had the lamb chop, fried chicken, Kathi roll, chicken cutlet, two Kerala Parotta, and one chai tea. Everything was great.
The Kerala Parotta is a layered Indian flatbread. It was delicious. It reminds me of a time when my NZ classmates who are from Fiji came to my apartment to make roti bread for us. However, the fried chicken was absolutely my favorite. My husband on the other hand liked the spicy Kathi roll and the grilled lamb chop the best.
Our Indian cuisine dining was very satisfying. There was excellent service with delicious food. The atmosphere was very pleasant with some Indian imported decorations including a two-hundred-year-old wooden door.
Because of all of the above (Flavor, consistency, and quality), I consider this place to be the very best...
Read moreI was very happy with my visit here. The location near the Higashikurume Station was convenient. The second floor placement was well situated away from the hustle and bustle. I was greeted quickly when I arrived. My waiter did a good job during my visit. The menu offered several tempting choices. I started with a Masala Papad, which consisted of a fresh veggie blend that was slightly spicy atop pappadum. It was quite tasty. The Shrimp Masala I ordered as a main was the most memorable aspect, however. It was outstanding. It was accompanied by roti which made a nice side. I was extremely pleased with my choices. I finished with a Masala Chai, which was delightful. My total bill was less than ¥2800 which I thought was a great deal. I would definitely recommend this spot if you are at all a fan of...
