Not just the best sushi in Tokyo, but the best service in Japan! Masaru is a true gentleman in every sense. My girlfriend and I spent two and a half weeks touring all of Japan, with a full week in Tokyo. On our third night we came across this restaurant on Google while exploring Akihabara, drawn in by its flawless 5-star rating. The experience is massively immersive and completely unique, from the intimate venue to the exquisite detail and care put into every dish. Yes, it’s a small 6-seat bar (a tight squeeze for sure), but in my opinion (and clearly everyone else’s), that actually adds to the atmosphere. The intimate, almost private setting lets you sit directly behind the bar, watching the best sushi you’ll ever try being hand-crafted right in front of you. That connection with the chef and the food is something special, and the size of the place only heightens it. The food speaks for itself. Masaru is a top-class sushi chef, having worked in some of the finest establishments in both Japan and the USA before opening his own restaurant two years ago. His expertise shows from the second he touches the rice to the moment the sushi lands on your plate. Effortless excellence in every action. A true sushi sensei. He even creates his own unique sushi, crafted from the finest ingredients. My personal favorite was the yuzu salmon nigiri: fresh, light, and absolutely delicious. Needless to say, all the fish is sourced each morning from the local market. Yet for us, the real highlight was the service, Masaru himself. The kindness and professionalism he showed was among the very best I have ever experienced anywhere. You feel genuinely welcome from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you (sadly) leave two hours later, and even after that. We loved it so much we went back again during our short stay in Tokyo, and the second time was somehow even better. Masaru runs the restaurant alone, but you’d swear there were five people working with how smooth and efficient everything is. His communication is top-notch too and his English is perfect. Overall, there’s not much more to say other than this: if you are in Tokyo and want a perfect experience, and one that’s also amazing value, this is the spot. Just be sure to reserve in advance via Instagram (@sushibar_fish4u)! Thank you again, Masaru, for giving us the most incredible and memorable experience of our trip

It is my first visit to Tokyo (and to Japan). I had wanted to find an intimate and tasty Sushi experience here, and by great fortune, I happened to walk by 'sushi bar fish 4 u' on my way out of 'Electric Town' last night - and I found exactly what I had been hoping for. The lovely owner welcomed us warmly. He also speaks good English (which certainly helps someone like me who speaks no Japanese!). The mark of a great restaurant is one where you trust them to serve you the best selection available on the day - where you don't choose the food to have, but instead you are presented with their selection to enjoy. This was the case here, and a friend and I were rewarded with a really quite wonderful eating experience. The sushi was (of course) fresh, and it was great to have the intimate experience of watching our sushi being prepared right in front of us, along with fine draft beer and then a lovely dry sake to follow. Each piece of sushi was prepared carefully and contained subtle flavour elements beyond the core seafood ingredient. Each one was really quite a wonderful taste experience. It is hard to identify which was the best on the night because they were all so good, but I think for sheer flavour, on the night, the Otoro was the winner for me, but only barely - it really was all just great. If you want to get off of the sushi train circuit and have a real sushi experience (in all senses of that word), I can't recommend this highly enough.

In a city filled with dining options, this small omakase restaurant stands out—not just for its incredible food, but for the fact that it is entirely run by one man: Masaru. As both the chef and the bar manager, he single-handedly delivers an intimate and unforgettable dining experience, seamlessly balancing precision, hospitality, and artistry. From the moment you step in, you’re welcomed as if you’re a guest in Masaru’s own home. The space is cozy, allowing for a truly personal experience where every dish is crafted right before your eyes. His omakase menu is a showcase of the freshest seasonal ingredients, prepared with masterful technique. Each course, from melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to perfectly grilled seafood, is a testament to his dedication and skill. Beyond the food, Masaru’s expertise in sake elevates the experience even further. His pairings are spot-on, enhancing the delicate flavors of each dish. Despite being the sole person running the restaurant, he manages to provide impeccable service, effortlessly engaging with guests while maintaining the flow of the meal. Dining here is more than just a meal—it’s a rare opportunity to witness a true craftsman at work. Masaru’s passion and precision make this omakase experience one-of-a-kind, proving that even a one-man operation can rival the finest establishments. An absolute must-visit for those seeking an authentic and deeply personal dining experience.
