Sushi Masa — Restaurant in Tokyo

A rare symphony of sushi concocted by the gifted Chef Hoshi Ryūtarō. It was a delight to dine with this 28 year old sushi enthusiast and Sake Popeye (as in sake gives him #fullpower like spinach to the one eyed sailor). The fish to rice ratio was immaculate, the vinegar level just right, and the freshness of the fish intertwines for what is a magical experience paired with BYOB for 100 yen.

This omakase was a highlight of our trip, where my mother in law had her first full stint of a full course sushi meal for the first time in her life and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant houses only 6 seats and reservation is a must, but the no frills booking is easy, just make sure to book a week or two in advance. We will be coming back to visit Mr Fullpower again...

We were well taken care of by the chef, Ryutaro Hoshi. Small omakase with only seven seats and set seating times (5:30 PM and 7:30 PM). Would recommend as it is a very unique omakase experience with a more modern twist. If you are looking for an intimate, special omakase experience that won’t break the bank! We had the New Year’s eve special which was 15,000 yen per person with an additional 500 yen for one...

◆出色の一皿に変えて

面白い店だ。

つまみと握り一通りでお任せ一本、12100円。

もちろんベター系の立ち食い鮨にはこの価格帯の店は有るし、

こちらのように職人が握った着席の鮨でも探せば有るだろう。

しかし、上記のようなタイプの鮨は

そこそこリーズナブルな価格帯の鮨をウリにしながら、

総じて日本酒をはじめとするドリンクの価格帯を

かなり高い値付けにしているのが常道。

この店が特異なのは

本来は店の儲けのバランサーの役割の筈のドリンクが

持ち込み自由で、しかの何本持ち込んでも１人+100円と云う点。

ハッキリ言って嬉しさしか無い！

現に自分は今回二人で行って、

缶ビールを２本、日本酒の四合瓶を１本持ち込んだが、

入店して最初に「持ち込みのお酒ございますか？」と聞かれて

グラスも用意してくれるなど受け入れもスムーズだった。

もう一つ面白かったのは

握りの企画内容。

この日は

鮪の卸しのやま幸と米彦、矢島の３社の

鮪の食べ比べで、

それぞれ赤身の漬けとトロを中心に色々握ってくれる。

追加も含めて、

握り16貫のうち半分以上の９貫が鮪と云う大盤振る舞い！

脂のノリの中にもさっぱり感の有る

夏ならではの鮪がたっぷりと堪能出来た。

握り自体は

全体に赤酢の主張もさほど強くなく、

ネタを活かしたやわらかでおだやかな味わいだが、

この価格帯にしてこの内容なら十分満足の美味しさだった。
